I really enjoy the Blues Licks but, not having any musical background, I do not know what key I am playing in. All three of these licks (Lick 1,2 & 3) start on the 8th fret. So am I playing in the key of C?

If so can I move these same licks up and down on the neck and change keys? So if I move the licks to the 3rd fret, will I be playing in the key of G?

        Thank you,

        Howard

You are totally correct, Howard. Like John Mayer says, when you are playing in 1st position pentatonic scale starting on the 8th fret, think of that 8th fret as the ground floor. The key is the note on the E string, so C it is. BTW, notice that the blues jamtrack for the Blues Lead lessons is in A, so the ground floor becomes the 5th fret. Same finger positions, just a different ground floor. I guess you know a lot more about music than you thought you did.
