Hi Michele, are you looking for an electric or acoustic travel guitar?
I’ve had 2 electric travel guitars. The first one was a “Traveler Guitar Electric Ultra-Light” and I didn’t like it much as it was too lightweight, it was difficult to play for me:

Then I went for a “Steinberger Guitars Gt-Pro Deluxe” and it sounds way better, it’s got a heavier body so it sustains more and feels more natural when you play it. Sounds great, but I find it a bit harder to play than my Yamaha Pacifica 112, as the Steinberger has a thick neck.

These days I still keep the Steinberger for my travels, it does the job, but I always miss coming back home with my “real” guitars.
I’d love to hear from your experience, I guess there are other good alternatives out there!

You have a difficult problem, Michele. I have a Taylor Baby guitar which I use for travel, but I doubt if you would even want to carry a baby guitar. A baritone ukulele wouldn’t be too bad, and it’s tuned just like a guitar. Some people like these:
Ultra-Light Acoustic (Antique Brown)
And the Martin Ultra-light is also popular.

Hi Michele,
Well, I can’t say that I know what it is like to air travel with a guitar. But I always prefer smaller body guitars and I can tell you about those that I have. These days, there are so many options so you just have to decide on your priorities and the budget.
First of all, here’s something Brian promoted, a high quality foldable AND great sounding travel guitar by Journey Instruments: https://youtu.be/gU7LTwBXSxA
My everyday go-to guitar is a Taylor GS Mini which is considered a travel guitar but while I do take it on road trips, I wouldn’t want to take it on a plane, it’s just too big. But it sounds great and it’s super easy to play when properly set up.
My first ever steel string guitar was a small acoustic electric Yamaha APXT-2, I still love that thing! I sounds surprisingly great for its size and even better when plugged in. If I had to fly with a guitar, I would definitely take that one. It’s small, light, durable and easy to play for my small hands. Oh, and also cheap!
I also had a Martin backpacker for a while but I found it very hard to play. It has a full size fretboard so I guess that’s desirable for some but it sounds like it looks, a stick 😉
I just couldn’t play that thing so I sold it.Let us know what you decide and I think it would be cool to see you playing your travel guitar in different places of the world! I did quite a bit of travelling in my young days and wish I had taken up guitar then! It would have been so much more fun. I think? 😉

thank you very much for all your answer.
i have meet a guy on the beach few months ago and he was playing a martin backpacker, it was really tiny but i am more oriented to an electric one.
at the moment i am playing an acoustic guitar that i have bought here for only 35 dollars, it is a cole clark, a local product.
i have found a travel electric guitar made in indonesia, the name is the tripper, the price is around 150 dollars, but i am not sure if it could be a good choise.
thank you

That tripper looks much like the Ultra Light that I had first. I didn’t like precisely that, it was so light that it was hard to play!
That Journey acoustic guitar that Brian promoted looks great definitely! But it’s a bit pricey as well… I guess it’s a fair price as it’s a very specialized product.

I’d look at learning slide guitar on your travels
It will provide hours of endless fun practicing the various techniques involved and you don’t need a full size guitar or even six strings for that matter
Put into an open tuning and you can spiral away
Plenty of choice from a cigar box to a 3/4 guitar your not tied to needing something expensive as long as it’s got 3 strings or more.

Here’s a carbon fiber acoustic with a detachable neck. If you want an acoustic and not an electric, I think this might be the way to go.

I LOVE Taylors! So I bought a Baby Taylor 8 years ago and it never ceases to amaze me with the quality of its sound for its size. Bright, clear, loud, it’s never let me down for an outdoor Singalong. (I’m in the UK but BT lives out in Portugal with a mate).
So 4 years ago I bought a GS Mini for home use and it’s the guitar I play all the time – the size of the fretboard is just so perfect, and it has a good tonal quality.
But hey, to complete the set I’m waiting for delivery of a new Taylor GTE, which just looks delicious!
As I say, I just LOVE Taylors! For travel, I’d highly recommend the BABY.Love Taylor guitars

Thank you for your answers.
I went to try the tripper and was really difficoult to handle cause too light, especially during the change of chords was almost impossible to handle the neck, maybe it’s just a matter of practice to find the right balance and position, anyway i am not anymore sure to buy it.
The carbon fiber guitar posted above it would be perfect, also cause apparently indestructible, but the price is totally crazy!
I start to look at those taylor and falled in love with the baby bt, i will try to find a shop around with this Guitar so i can play it.
My next step probably will be mexico, are guitar more cheaper over there?
My actual guitar is destroying my hand 🙁 -

The baby Taylor is made in Mexico in Taylor’s Tecate factory
Hope that helps
