True story, seems Dickey Betts was slightly inebriated one night and shoved a cop, landing him in jail & he flew back to Sarasota for a few days
First video, Duane Betts & Devon Allman describes the situation; they tried to find other players but Zakk was the only one availableWe have to admit that Zakk is an amazing player but just not quite the right fit to play live with The Brothers. He was doing his typical stage antics, standing on the monitors, spitting beer, etc
The funny thing was when Warren Haynes asked him if he knew Dreams, one of Gregg’s most famous compositions. His reply was “Oh yeah man, you mean that Molly Hatchet song”.

What a great story. I’ve heard Dickie Betts has had his share of substance abuse issues which I think caused them to fire him. Sadly, I don’t think he plays anymore and has retired. Warren Haynes is still going strong with Gov’t. Mule. TABB was, in my opinion, the greatest live jam band ever and pioneered dual lead guitarists.

Its sad that Dickey was ousted from the band – all members had the share of substance abuse issues that caused major issues for them.
Dickey tells a different side of the story, outlining the inner strife as being largely due to Butch TrucksThe Allman Brothers final album Hittin’ The Note was recorded without Dickey and while Warren and Derek are really good, the lack of Dickey’s influence is so noticeable in those songs. After Duane’s death, Dickey stepped up and his influence became the bedrock of that band just as Keef is the bedrock of The Stones.
Take Keith Richards out and as good as Ronnie Wood is, they wouldn’t have that trademark sound. Even so it was after Dickey was oustedDickey Betts says “a dirty little business deal” got him kicked out of the Allmans

What Didckey and Warren were doing was phenomenal and I don’t think will ever be topped. Speaking of The Stones, I’m sorta liking a couple tracks off their new album Hackney Diamonds.

Yes Dickey Betts and Warren was very good together but Jack Pearson played with The Brothers for a while during an leave of absence of Warren
Jack is so good that Dickey told Gregg that they either needed to him or they would need to take guitar lessons from him. Total natural playerThis concert is over two and a half hours long but well worth the time to watch it. About an hour into the show, they break long enough for the stage hands to set up for an acoustic set.
Since you regard them as a great jam band, you will totally enjoy the acoustic set. Dickey put on the metal fickerpicks and tore it up…on an Alvarez no lessI can’t say that it is better than Dickey with Warren but it’s every bit as good
And take note – Jack is playing a G&L 🙂Keith
