My titled summed it up pretty good. what does it mean when a V shape appears on one of the tableture strings? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I’m going to guess at it being an downstroke. v = downstroke, ^ =upstroke.
That’s the only thing I can think of where a “v” is used in tablature unless it’s for vibrato, which sometimes uses a “~”. I looked at Brian’s Tab from the last lesson and didn’t see a “v” or a “~”, but he certainly uses vibrato.

In the Blues course it’s Pattern 1 Lick 2. Also pattern 1 lick 8. Thanks. Last night I was having trouble watching the video’s, he probably gave an explantation in the video part of the lesson. Thankfully I no longer have a problem viewing them so I should have my answer as soon as I make it over to the blues section. Thanks –Jerry

Yep, The videos are key here. I looked at the tab and the videos and it seems that the wide “V” on the string is for vibrato. But in each instance that you indicate it’s fairly different. Pattern 1 lick 2 is a more steady vibrato, much like in Pattern 1 lick 1 that is tabbed by a repeated “VVVV”. Pattern 1 Lick 8 is different in that in the video the vibrato is more like a slight bend upward.
So the movements are different that relate directly to the video.
I had just went through the course, and was kind of wanting to revisit some of the licks, so it was cool that you brought this up. It seems that I have some licks from the course that are favorites, and those get incorporated into my playing, but it’s tough to remember all of the licks.
So going back through the licks may spice things up a bit and add a few more keepers.

Thanks DM for the clarification. It makes perfect sense. I still haven’t made it back there yet so I appreciate the info. Darn weather is so nice it’s hard to stay inside and practice. –Jerry
