It was time for a makeover, and Earl Hooker is one of my all-time favorite gittarists. Every few weeks or so, I plan to change the photos associated with my account to show one of my favorite musicians (they may not all be gittarists–they certainly aren’t in reality); at that time, I’ll also post one or two songs by them as well as other relevant info.

The six people in my new background photo are Magic Sam (more on him soon), unknown man, unknown man, Clifton Chenier, Earl Hooker and another unknown man, 1969 at one of the American Folk Blues Festival concerts.

Clifton Chenier’s drummer, Robert St. Julien, is playing on this cut at the AFBF. At the time this was filmed in 1969, Mr. Hooker had less than a year to live and he wasn’t playing at his youthful peak, worn down from years of fighting TB–but he could still outplay most guitarists.

Here’s an article by Paul Oliver about the event/recording.

Here’s Stefan Wirz’s Earl Hooker discography.
