Hi,
Have any of you purchased guitarPro or Soundslice ? I know we all use Soundslice on this site but do you use either of these apps to learn songs off the web and to practice riffs and such like. Seems to me that Soundslice is more suited to video applications while GuitarPro is more of a static collection of tabs. Appreciate any input. Thanks. -

Hi Tim,
I have used both applications. The free version of the web-based Soundslice is very useful for syncing a Youtube video with the tablature, as you suspected. For example, it is perfect for older AM lessons that don’t feature the interactive tablature yet. One of the cons is that I can’t print the tabs with the free version.
I find the Guitar pro 7 very useful for tabbing my compositions or transcriptions. Of course, you can also download other .gp tab files. It has pretty much all the features you could desire except for video syncing. But you can play along the tablature at any tempo so it’s almost just as good. Printing is available although I don’t like how small the numbers show on the tabs, I find them hard to read. I am yet to figure out if this can be adjusted.
Hope that helps 🙂

Hi Jola,
Thanks. That’s really useful. I just tried the free Soundslice version and will try that some more I think before I do much else. Your guitar playing is really excellent by the way. Congrats !-

Hi Tim,
I’ve been using Guitar Pro version 6 and 7 for many years. Once you learn it’s features, it is excellent for entering and reviewing tabs. The voices it has are great also. Their technical help responds quickly to my questions. And finally, they have a good library of tabs that you can purchase. There are public domains of free GP tabs that other users have created and submit, but alternatively, I found that tabs purchased from Arobas are quite accurate to the song’s composition. Additional, many professional guitarists that I have bought their song tabs from, use GP. So it seems to be common software used in the professional guitarist community. I have not used Soundslice. Note also, that I do also use BIAB, not for creating tabs, but for creating backup tracks. When BIAB creates a melody line for any instrument, in any key, it will also create a midi tab for that track. So it’s a good learning tool also.
hope that helps you out.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for replying. In Guitar Pro can you import a youtube video and have Guitar Pro convert it to tabs? I know that Soundslice does this and I like that ability to see the video with the tab synced to it as Brian does here on AM. I have the free Soundslice version and it has ‘ Community ‘ players who have contribued their videos. You may want to sign up for the free version as I have just to take a look.

Looking back at Jola’s reply I think she answered my question now I’m revisiting this exchange. As Jola has put it Guitar Pro does not have any video syncing ability.
