… Dec.8, 1980: I woke up for work about 4:00 A.M. and walked through the living room where my Mom was already up, and I knew something was very wrong. She said with tears in her eyes “John Lennon was killed”. I said “How”, and she said “Some nut shot him in New York”. So began one of the saddest days of my life. Shot and killed for being the greatest songwriter and singer of my lifetime. I believe if it wasn’t for John (and Paul, and George, and Ringo) there wouldn’t be an Active Melody, there wouldn’t be a lot of things. I can’t even Imagine how many millions of guitar players would never have wanted to learn to play guitar if it wasn’t for the amazing talent of these four friends from Liverpool. I believe John and his friends were a gift to us from God, and they were put together to give us all happiness, love, and joy. I know I greatly appreciate the gift, and their music was and is still one of the greatest treasures in my life.

My memory is not great but I do remember where I was that day 40 years ago. Sad day indeed! Thanks for the postings above Ralph. All the best!

Hey Sal, How about the President of Decca Records who turned The Beatles down because “Guitar groups are on the way out”? He was slightly wrong too.

Yep. Even tho this happend a year before I was born, I grew up listening to a lot of Beatles. John definitely had an impact on my musical development.
