I just got one of Recording King’s new Parlor series resonator guitars. This one is called the Swampdog. It is made of distressed bell brass. I am pretty sure it has the same cone that my Gretsch Alligator has.
I thought it was appropriate to play Michael Dowlings Swamp Dog Blues on my Swampdog guitar.

Hey Roger
Sounded really good.
I’m considering a different reso at some point and Recording King is one of the brands that I’m thinking of. Of course you can’t find one in stores to try so what are your thought of the quality and feel of this guitar.
I’m wanting to get a tri-cone when the time comes and Recording King & Republic are the 2 brands that I’m thinking about

Roger That has some great blues tone and you played it very nicely indeed. I really enjoyed listening to that. I can only imagine you are pleased with the sound and would love to hear your thoughts of the guitar in general. If the rest is as good as the sound you have a real winner. More Please.

Thankyou for the compliments on my playing.
Frankly I am very pleased with pretty much every aspect of this guitar. It is solid, well balanced, very easy to play, and I am impressed with the finger action on it.
I believe it has the very same cone my Gretsch Alligator has.
Fortunately the store I went to had two of these guitars. They had the full size one and this one. I sat there playing this guitar for an hour before I purchased it. I tried the larger one but I really went up there for the parlor.
As for the tricone. I know Sarah Rogo once did a promo for republic guitars and she is a National representative. I can vouch for the Recording King being a well built quality instrument. I don’t think Sarah Rogo would have plugged a Republic if they were not high quality instruments as well. I am thinking a set of National Cones would most likely fit eiher one if you wanted to buy and upgrade. The cone is the very heart of the sound on a resophonic guitar.
My suggestion would be to find youtube videos of people playing each one. The nice thing about this video is it was simply recorded on a phone with no enhancements whatsoever so it gives you a really true idea of what this guitar sounds like.

This was Brian’s lesson on hybrid picking.

I just started listening to Rogo a few weeks ago. Just yesterday, Norman’s Rare Guitars YouTube channel posted a new video with her. Check it out.

Will do. My favorite piece she has done is Come On In To My Kitchen

This ax is a killer, Roger! Now you have to do all the songs you wished to and put them up in the showcase. We want to hear this guitar ring!

Another resonator, huh?! I like those Swampdogs, the name alone is cool 😉
But what is the best about it is your playing, Roger. Damn, you’re getting really good at that porch slidin’! Love it 🙂

Sounds great. The mid priced resonators seem to have come a long way. I’ve been torn for a while about whether to get a resonator or a gypsy jazz guitar. (No similarities except I love both styles of music.)
