        Hi Active Melody family!

April site member challenge time! Ok, so for the April challenge you can choose any MAJOR key jam track from ActiveMelody, and improvise using the major AND minor pentatonic scales.

You can go back and forth between them, treating them separately, or you can blend them together and play seamlessly between them.

Don’t make this more difficult than it should be, it’s fine to keep things simple. The idea is to show that you can use your ear to play both of them 🙂

The submission date for this challenge will be Sunday, May 1- you can start submitting Friday, April 29

**If you need assistance with how to record yourself and post to the forum see this post**

        _______________

        GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

        1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing your chosen lesson anytime between Friday, April 29, through Sunday, May 1, 10:00 pm CST. Please do not submit earlier. I think it is fun to see everyone’s posts at once.

        2. Submit individually in the “Active Melody Member Challenge Response Submissions” forum. Title your posts “April 2022 Challenge Response – [Your AM Screen Name]”

        3. Please submit only a single video or audio file for this challenge.

        4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by these challenges!!! Use these challenges to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Active Melody members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.

        5. In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about…you learning guitar and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

Arlo!!!! The ever comfortable pug! 😆🐶

I gotta say I genuinely get scared every time you say the word “easy”! You should be banned from using that word or any synonyms thereof, Brian 😉

Haha, more like a walk in the rough desert terrain under a hot sun and no more water, but ok 😉

Love this challenge. Will request if I can use ANY jam track, (not necessarily from the AM website) ?

And love Arlo… perhaps he would like to meet our cat Jasper?

Rich, is that what’s left of the last dog she met up with?

While browsing jam tracks this morning, I rediscovered this gem of a lesson from November. Would be a great help for anyone new to the pentatonic scales.

Thanks for posting this. I’m about to bite the bullet and try my first “challenge” and this link should be super helpful.

Thank you Brian, this is another great learning opportunity which I think might pose a ‘challenge’. Looking forward to ‘digging’ into this and coming up with something cool.

That’s a doable challenge; I’d like not to use a simple 1-4-5 progression for this one. Maybe a gospel blues?

                                But here I go!!
I’ve been INTENTLY skirting focusing on Pentatonic Major/Minor scale work, all along knowing that I needed and WANTED to learn – so “This is it!”

Jason, thanks for the EP436, I’ll start there.

                                Happy Challenge everyone!
