Hi TIM, Funny issue, I had a simliar issue but with the bluphone vivo2xl.. android would not update and long story short, I finally did a factory reset.. but ever since then ,it is so much slower uploading from android phone to windows10 desktop top via wifi at home…. I thought a factory reset would clean up and do the opposite..like you bit disappointed as to having to rely on apps ..all this was suppose to in the smartphone it was suppose to be faster when upgrading so maybe I too need an app of some sort to boost uploads

Hi John,
I’m mad at myself for not paying more attention to the programs and making a note of some of them but anyways….too late now….hoping someone has a program that is virus free that I can use.
Happy Easter!

and to maybe assist you better, YouTube is likely the best source for troubleshooting.. they are trying to sell YouTube tv here by me..I figure Verizon sees everything I watch tv/computer so there is no where to hide.. Facebook cable network service providers especially Google.. so we all live in glass houses and no such thing as safe programs just try a highly rated free app.. I don’t even know if you need an app with windows 10. should not be the case so youtube search your inquiry gl

I do this via online sites — just google youtube mp3 converter. Some are better than others. Instead of downloading the video, you just paste the link to the video you want, and download the mp3.
As with most of the internet, it’s best to have an adblocker, a popup blocker, and Windows Defender or other antivirus running when you go to these sites.

Tim,
A friend of mine uses Audacity as his DAW and is able to record the audio from a YouTube video directly off his soundcard into Audacity. Not sure how he does it, but this would avoid all the malware issues. I’m going to ask my son to help me investigate this using my DAW.

Marty & John,
Thanks. I guess I’ll have to trust that my anti virus does the job and select one of the converters off the net. I’m not using a DAW – decided that it’s easier for me just to use my amps.Tim

I used to use Audacity as my DAW before moving to Reaper. I have tried to record sound from YouTube with Reaper but cannot do it. So I still use Audacity for that purpose. It’s fairly easy to set up, just need to make sure the sound input is correct. But in essence, you are not dowloading the backing track, but recording it. Of course if you are also wanting video, this will not help.

Bob,
Thanks. I just tried downloading a converter program but it came with all kinds of add ons so had to restore my system to an earlier setting to get rid of the programs it added…..I’m not using a DAW right now as I want to use my amps and keep it simple.
Thanks for replying!

Tim,
I am not sure if this works in all versions of windows or on all computers. I am running Windows 7. There is a program under Accessories called “Sound Recorder”. I think it is really for recording voice memos etc. It is a bare bones program that appears to have little or no options. But I was able to record sound from YouTube using it.

Thanks,

The problem with downloadable apps is that they’re usually packed with all kinds of annoyingware/malware/adware.
Here’s the site I use. It’s pretty quick. Especially since youtube now splits its video and audio streams, so it’s not really converting, just streaming that into a downloadable package:
I’ve never had a problem with this site (at one point it was flagged as malicious by Firefox, but that could mean anything).
Nonetheless, you should always have an antivirus running — most will be monitoring your web activity as well.

Here’s a way that couldn’t be easier: Download the Youtube video as an MP4 file (you get to choose what type of file you want to download) with the lowest resolution offered, open Audacity, drag the MP4 file into Audacity’s workspace. After it imports, just save the file (the default is MP3).

Oh, maybe you don’t know how to download a Youtube video as an MP4 file, so here’s how: Install Mozilla Firefox browser, if you don’t already have it. In the Firefox menu, click on Tools > Add-ons > get Add-ons. Find Videodownloadhelper and install it. Just in case Videodownload helper fails to work for some reason, also install Flash Video Downloader. If one seems too slow, or not working well, just use the other one. Videodownloadhelper appears as 3 little colored balls in the upper right of the Firefox menu. When you open a Youtube video, the 3 little balls will start to rotate, meaning that it has the ability to download the file. Click on the 3 little balls, and a menu will drop down showing you what formats you can download. Choose the lowest resolution MP4, since you only want the audio, which is the same for any format. I would avoid using an online converter, since you have to give them your email address usually.

Steve,
Thanks. What I have found is that most of these programs add other programs to your computer in the background which is why I had to clean out the add on programs and then restart my computer. Have you had that problem?

Billy,
Thanks. I tried a similar program and it added all kinds of stuff to my computer. Have you looked at your list of programs to see if it added any to your computer? I saw the FLVTO converter when I was searching the net but didn’t try it because of possible add ons….

TimYou can use flyto online, no need to install anything — that’s the link I gave up above. You just paste the youtube link, then download the .mp3 file it generates.

Marty,
Thanks. Ok so I got the flyto app working and have converted to mp3. The program is showing the track as converted to mp3. How can I transfer this to an mp3 player? I don’t see a way to click and drag to a file or suchlike?

TimOnce it’s converted, you click on the download button — that will/should open up a dialog so you can choose where you want the file to go. Since it’s an mp3, the download should be very quick.
Some browsers choose the download location automatically – in that case, there should be a “download” folder on your harddrive, you’ll find the mp3 there. After that, it’s just a matter of attaching your mp3 player (your phone?) to the computer and transferring the file as you would any other.

Convert youtube video to mp3 format without losing audio quality in a few seconds. Use “convertmp3.cc” it’s a free tool and easy to use and no need to subscribe to any application.
