I think I’m missing some technique while doing bends. For example ; lesson 268, measure 8…..Is the bend on the B string, seventh fret being muted at the top of the bend before the string is released and and payed again? Or is just just returned to neutral under the ring finger and played again?
Any advice about muting strings following a bend would be appreciated. It’s all the super important technique stuff that I’m missing and its where everything interesting happens. Thanks

Definitely muted, Dennis. That’s an easy one because the next note is on the same string. All you have to do is lay your pick on the string as the bend is released. You are also ready to pick the next note.
If the next note after the bend is on a higher pitched string I think I use a combo of the tip of my index finger, fretting hand, and side of my palm on the picking hand. Most of these bends will be done with the ring or pinky leaving the index free for muting.

Great, thanks for the quick answer John. That really answers a few questions for me. Thanks for mentioning the proper technique too.

Cheers from me also charjo, I did not know that trick. Sometimes those little things make a huge difference.

I’ve been struggling with trying to mute bends properly and only use the palm muting technique. Timing is off sometimes but getting better. John’s tip about pic muting is new to me as well and have been trying it out. Feels a little weird, so far, but it works great! Two technique light bulb moments from Charjo, Thanks John 🙂
