This is a nod to my all time favorite duo, Hermanos Gutierrez, without trying to play anything of theirs 😎
With my limited guitar time, I had to come up with something simple but even that came up with its challenges, especially when it comes to finding the right tone for each part, it took some experimenting. Also, a string broke on my lap steel so I had to buy a new set but for C6 tuning this time. I re-stringed it 3 days before deadline and then had to quickly find my way into this – new to me – tuning. All in all, it was a fun project and if not for the challenge deadline, I would not have touched guitar at all so they keep me going.
I know there will be a great variety of submissions this month and I can’t wait to dig into them – hopefully I’ll have the chance to view most of them on my only day off today!

I was worried about your streak, Jola, I should have known you wouldn’t let us down.
That was really beautiful. I especially loved the harmonized sixths over your lovely rhythm.
I just traded an old guitar for an Airline lap steel this morning. Hope I can use it as effectively as you.
You also showed me I need to up my video game. Loved the final scene.

¡Hola Hermanas Jolas, hermosa composición y espléndida ejecución 😅 !
Glad you could make it! Loved the chord progression, with an Andalusian cadence for the verse and then an unexpected and very original musical change (perhaps a modulation?) in the chorus, for then resolving to the original progression!
Very well played and harmonized both rhythm parts and the slide guitar melody adds a very special and melancholic vibe to the song.Really an excellent and original composition: liked very much the whole production!

Well done, Jola….I didn’t find it easy at all, though…quite the opposite. I also find holding the same accompaniment for a long time difficult, especially with barre chords….excellent as always…

JoLa my friend you didn’t need more time, this is a beautiful composition.
Very dreamy vibe, love it.
I am glad you took out the lapsteel, I was wondering when we were going to hear it again.
You are so creative with your music and videography.
What is the difference with C6 and regular strings?
Well you can’t miss a challenge if you want to get to 200,lolAndréM

André, you can’t really tune “regular” strings into C6 tuning (CEGACE), I learned that the hard way, lol.
In order to get a good and consistent tension across the strings you need to get a custom made C6 tuning set.🎸JoLa

Jola, you outdid yourself with this masterpiece of a composition. Lap steel goodness with a vibe of an old Clint Eastwood western movie sound track. Nice hat too.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Very nice JoLa. It definitely had a Latin flair. Loved the lap steel and solid rhythm and timing. Beautiful!

The Guitar Brothers would be proud of you, Jola! That’s the sound of South Beach and Coconut Grove in Miami. It all fitted together perfectly. Looks like several AM members are starting to dabble in lapsteel playing. Very creative, as usual, flawless fretwork, great quality recording and video…..what more can I say? It was perfect. And I’m sorry to hear that work is interfering with your guitar career. I had to take a 3 month break from guitar to let my thumb tendons heal, and when I started playing again, I had forgotten about a lot of the stuff I was working on. I figure if you take a month off, it takes 2-3 months to re-build your skill set.

The title! It was inspired, as was the rest of this piece.
This finger-style picking you do is incredibly effective. In this piece the timing — the long pauses — suggested you spent a lot more time learning this than you are letting on.
In any event, the double-stop sixths, the melody, the tone of the instruments — it was all magical.
Beautifully done. -

The rhythm loop is very groovy, hypnotic. The harmonized lick on the lead guitar is fantastic. And I love that ascending run on the lap steel while the rhythm guitar descends, bravissimo!

You have definitely found your inspiration with the Hermanos.
Great rhythm with that reverb/slap back delay. I like how you’ve woven in the harmonized sixth rhythm.
And I like these effective stops in-between. Beautiful melancholic melody with the lap steel.
I am impressed how you challenged yourself to get the right sound and setup. It was worth the work and effort.
Great Hermanos vibe…and I like your outfit!More Blues!

You are so darn good! Seriously… This just oozes with soul and tone. Yes, you are the Queen of Tone. I love how you layer your guitar(s) so tastefully and delicately… the ending made the hair on the back of my neck stand. You arrange and perform these pieces like a skilled painter adding color and texture. Great stuff. I think me needs to get one of those lap guitars. 🙂Thanks for the continued inspiration

Thanks for the great post. The lap steel really fits well into this Spanish-influenced composition.
I’d also be interested in learning more about the strings and the unique features of a lap steel (and what is C6 tuning?).

Hi Jola , the simplicity of this is enchanting, the subtle rhythm playing is superb , I like the way you worked those harmonies in , great idea to use the lap steel ,the sound gave a haunting quality to the piece .
Although you mentioned time constraints the effort you put into dialling in the right tone was evident and it worked out perfectly .Martin
