I wanted to try something other than Blues so I put together a chord progression and lead guitar and added bass, drums, and piano Session Players from Logic Pro 12.
It was not easy for me and didn’t really like the session players so I turned them down quite a bit in the mix.
It was also not easy for me to keep a solid rhythm going and so I took only the best part (about 1 minute) of a 3 minute total recording.
I can’t wait to get inspired by listening to everyone’s submissions.

The composition turned out good, just the video on the rhythm part wasn’t sync’d up. It’s always a pain getting all that right, but it still came out good. The lead part was done cleanly and fit the mold of a happy major sound.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Great work – nice video effects too!

Nicely played, Joe. You and your brother’s timing was good. The band was off. They must have been drinking before the show. 😀

Very original and enjoyable composition Joe! Liked the upstroke strumming rhythm and the lead part is very catchy and melodic! Very nice vide production too: it looks like you and your twin had fun recording this 😅 !

Nice Joe, you’ve got a groove going and a nice lead on top of it. Melodic and smooth! I like your video, too. Green screen? I don’t have one… I had to fight with camera alignment, etc. and didn’t get it quite right, but it’s all about having fun, right?

Well done Joe! Like others have said, the audio and video weren’t in sync, but that’s easy to correct. Just ask here on the forum and you’ll get lots of suggestions on how to go about it. Everyone has their own favorite way of doing it.

Joe
Well done, interesting and enjoyable. I think you once said you joined AM to improve your lead play. Well, you certainly are doing that. Another good one, tight, smooth and melodic. Thanks for sharing.John

Joe, I really liked that. I think you should concentrate more on that.
Guthrie Trapp says that every time we practice we should have a tonal centre in mind, exactly what you did here.
Great relaxation in your strumming hand. I think you’re demonstrating skills you haven’t shown us before.

Nicely done, Joe – it’s a steep learning curve, isn’t it, when you’re trying to sync multiple parts, not just in the audio, but video too? However, it’s a lot of fun playing with these “Grandpa’s Toys” as my grandkids call them 😂😂 – Mark 👍🎶😎

A solid rhythmic foundation, and then your beautiful lead melodies, Joe. As far as I’m concerned, there was no need for any other musicians. You two did a fantastic job.
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be May/June
There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum
I look forward to meet you.

It was a Rhythm and Lead Challenge, and you did just that Joe, mission accomplished. Well done, your lead playing is so tasteful and exceptional and the strumming relaxed and fluent. Real life situation of you and yourself having a jam.

Well done, Joe, on your multi-layered project. Recording different parts of the song and then including and synchronizing the clips is not an easy task. It took me years before I found out that FCP can sync audio with a video clip automatically. I guess that’s what the challenges teach us then, not only playing but also the recording part which is yet another rabbit hole in many directions. Either way, you managed and produced a good sounding sub, mission accomplished – ready for the next one? 😉

The technical issues aside, this was really good music. The chord progression was strong and powerful and the lead was clean and original. You can learn how to record and edit and all that, but nobody can teach you good taste — which you obviously have. (Except maybe in shirts. HA!)

That was a very tasty lead you played over the rhythm. Great tone!
I also have my problems with the session players and drummers in GarageBand or Logic Pro. It’s so hard to find the right track for my individual playing.
More Blues!

Hi Joe , solid rhythm playing and a tasteful lead to compliment . Your progress is evident and ticked all the boxes for the challenge criteria.
I guess the technical issues are another learning curve , way above my head !Martin

Personally, I try to minimize the technical aspects and focus on the playing. I put down three separate backing tracks using a Tascam recorder- no video – and only videoed the final track. Your lead guitar track was fine, that was enough for me.
