I had set out to finally do a “DAW plus video editor” style recording. But as frustration mounted and time passed, I realized I needed more time to practice that skill! So I returned to old faithful- USB mic to laptop, recording live. One day…
Anyway, as for music, I quickly settled on EP631. I was digging into that lesson right when the challenge was announced. It took some development on the rhythm part, and I eventually landed in a very minimal bass-style line.
Thanks for listening. And happy challenge weekend! 🙂

Loved your bass accompaniment Alan! You called it minimal but for me it’s very stylish and effective. Your soloing part on the guitar is great, I don’t remember exactly the whole lesson but I’m quite sure you added your own improvisation/composition to it and it is excellent and very enjoyable to listen to! Great work.

Yes, two verses of written lesson, two verses of jamming. Thanks!

Well put together and executed Alan and the sound you achieved is very clean and deliberate. Perfect timing.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Great job of adding your own voice to this lesson, Alan. Very creative with some interesting phrases and the bass part is really cool.

Hi Alan, really enjoyed this! I love the simple bass line against the bluesy melody. It’s got that “small club” feel of just a couple musicians making expressive music. Nice!

So cool Alan. A nice laid back bass with very melodic lead. All in perfect timing. It sounded great!

Very original idea, the bass accompaniment only….and your slow blues was very relaxing…very good.

Hey, that sounds pretty cool, Alan. The bass line is pretty killer. I think you’re onto something here. What kind of DAW and video editor do you have?

GarageBand I’m very comfortable with. I have iMovie, that’s the part I have zero experience with. I’ve watched the BryceAK and other tutorials. I think I “know” how to do it it just might be a comfort zone issue! 🤪

Great performance—the lead guitar is played flawlessly and fits the challenge perfectly. But for me, too, the bass is the “hidden champion.” Absolutely fantastic.
Thank you, Werner

Alan, the bass line was a master stroke. The less is more approach made it sophisticated. It did capture a small exclusive night club feel. You took part of the lesson and made it cool. Well done.

Alan, that stacatto, choppy, guitar style worked so well with the bass line.
I keep getting told that my playing is “smooth” so I really got a kick out of that.

I have absolutely no complaints about the “minimalist” rhythm section, Alan. It creates an atmospheric backdrop that really lets your lead playing shine. Sophisticated and so atmospheric.
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be May/June
There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum
I look forward to meet you.

You have such a light touch on that guitar.
It creates a great counterpoint to the clever bass line.
This is one of those examples where playing less and letting the music “breathe” creates a wonderful effect. -

Very well played! That was a fantastic groovy / jazzy version of that lesson with some improv. And the bass underneath was the cream on top.
More Blues!

You have a great feel for blues, Alan. Never rushed, not too slow, not too fast, just solid, steady, and musical. Very cool bass line indeed. It’s good to dig into the realms of recording but I sort of dig that low-fi music you created here, very nice vibe.

That might be a minimal bass line but it’s also a clever one , love the syncopation holding back on the beats in places , goes so well with the blues lead .

Nice to hear a strong bass line countering the melody. Makes it all so much more interesting.
