I’ve been a Mick Taylor fan since I first heard him play with the Stones. In my opinion he has been a very underrated musician. A few years ago I asked my friend Hank to work with me on Love in Vain. I tried to copy the tone and vibe that Mick laid down so well.

David and Hank-
This is a piece of REFRESHING! Kick ass! Bitchin’! Freakin’ delightful. Love the gritty vocals, guitar work and respect you showed to the versions that came before. Love your interpretation. Thanks for sharing.John

Thanks John. I saw the Stones in 1972 in Philadelphia. Mick Taylor was over-the-top incredible.

Wow that’s so wonderfully played. I didn’t know the song. Your friend has great rocky vocals that goes so well with the guitar.
Great performance!

Great collaboration, love your guitar work, David. You sent me down the “Love is Vain” rabbit hole.

Thanks John. I wanted to emulate Mick Taylor’s phrasing, tone and vibe that he used on this song on the Rolling Stones album Get Yer Ya-Yas Out.

Alright now, that’s some good singing and playing, it just needed a drummer and bass to complete the vibe.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Fantastic David.
Hank has a big gritty voice for a small guy.
Loved your tone on that black LP.

I couldn’t agree more, Let It Bleed is one of my all-time favourite albums and Mick Taylor was such a tasteful player. Your cover is something else, you must have put in a ton of effort to pull it off to such perfection – guitar, vocals, audio and video, all top notch.

Thank you, Jonathan. One of my favorite Stones albums is Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. That album has the live version of Love In Vain that I saw them do in Philadelphia in the early 70s. Mick Taylor was young then but already an incredibly tasteful guitarist.

Gosh, that takes me back! I remember very much liking Get Yer Ya-Yas Out at the time, will have to listen to it again. Lucky you to see them live back then. I saw them live in London at the time of Goat’s Head Soup but I wasn’t so interested in their music then.

Great job, David and Hank. Brings back memories. Of course I didn’t knew anything about Robert Johnson at the time. I thought it was a Stones song.

Thanks James. Same with me. The Rolling Stones introduced me to Robert Johnson’s music. Same is true for Clapton.

Not familiar with this song, but loved it in your brilliant version, David and Hank! Everything, from the gritty vocals to your guitar parts was just beautifully bluesy and loved especially those distorted solo parts, fantastic tone!

Thank you, Guido. This song was written by Robert Johnson in 1937, but it has been covered by many people, most notably the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton.

Oh my dearest David ♥️ Love is not in vain at all!!!!And your performance is the proof!Hank’s vocals are ideal for this version but both your guitars are masterful. Your soloing is so full of passion. No other instruments are required in my opinion for this soulful rendition 💞💕❤️

Sublime tone and playing on that ebony beauty.
I loved the timing on the arpeggio parts and the licks over the top were tastefully done.
Fantastic rock vocals from your man also.
I’m not sure if I know the song or not – it’s one of those – but I don’t doubt you both nailed it.
Liam.

Many thanks, Liam. Its an old tune done by the Stones in the 1970s when Mick Taylor played with them.
