I’m new so patience please. I’m trying to play the free lesson 362. That’s three Em voicings. I don’t have much experience beyond cowboy chords. My question is can this be played on an acoustic? I can’t seem to manage the slide down two frets for each voicing. Thanks in advance.

Yes, imho it can be played on acoustic. I’m thinking that this is a long term lesson to master though seeing as it has chord shapes you are not familiar with. Little at a time goes a long way though…Good luck.

Hey Rebecca, here on the forum we have patience in abundance, and more than a few of us are in some kind of lockdown or social isolation, so we have plenty of spare time. Your question is good and valid, something many people would wonder about. Speaking on behalf of the Council of Elders, I would say this: You can play virtually any AM lesson on either an electric or acoustic guitar. BUT, you may have to make some changes to adapt the lesson to your guitar, your physical abilities, or your style of playing. For example, it is easier to do slides and bends on an electric guitar, but you can compensate for this somewhat by using lighter gauge slippery strings on your acoustic (I use coated 010s). If I were playing EP362 on my acoustic, I would not try to slide the chords more than one fret, if at all. As an alternative, you can just strum the chord as it passes over each fret, and it will sound just as good as sliding. After all, the point is to learn the chord voicings, not become a skilled chord slider. Let us know how you go.

                Hey Rebecca,
First, Hello there, you’re going to learn so much at Active Melody! I’ve been playing for quite a while and still feel overwhelmed all the time!! Have you had a chance to check out some of Brian’s earlier videos? All the way back like Ep 006 or something like that. Also, what I thought was very informative is the “My Courses” section of the Website. He goes over each Pent. Scale, Minor, and major, the Blue note, everything. He literally walks you through each shape, shows you a few licks from that position, and is very patient in his earlier videos. I got instantly hooked to Active Melody the first time I came across it on YouTube. Oh, real quick, one more thing that’s really cool and packed with info: The Micro Lessons. Just very short but always melodic and informative quick lessons. Like, “damn, I shoulda thought of that” kinda stuff!! Okay, Rambling now. You Take Care.
                Respect,

                Doug P.
