Since the last three years that I am playing the guitar, I had started identifying notes, shapes, chords in terms of the Major Scale (unlike many that identifying with the Pentatonic scale); Major scale is more natural in this part of the world compared to the Pentatonic. Also, 2 note, 3 note, 4 note, 5 note scale patterns and their various permutation combination is also not too difficult for my understanding and playing, it happens very often in Indian pop and classical music. However, I wanted to treat this challenge a bit differently. The biggest musical challenge in my mind was “Fitment of the Scale patterns” in a whole musical context.
For this weeks challenge, I listened a lot… different music and played along.. and was never happy with the FITMENT. Finally, I found a Bengali (my mother tongue) Film song and found that… my thoughts fitted there. Hence I used that as the background.
In this challenge, I tried to hold back… and just place the patterns I chose… only in the two specific places, not to overshadow the entire song. Instead of the 4 note… I chose the 5 note scale pattern simple descending order once and ascending order the second time, with some interspersed notes.
Sorry, to bore you all with the Bengali song (its called New Love Song), just used it because it fitted my thoughts.
I remain grateful for all of your encouragement and kind words everytime, Thank You. Looking forward to listen to everyone.

Its always a pleasure to be introduced to new music, especially when it’s as beautiful as this. Your restrained 5 note lead lines fitted in perfectly. A little went a long way.

Very nice accompaniment! I enjoyed the Bengali Film song too. No idea what the text said, but enjoyed the music and video. It is really interesting to see and hear about things from other cultures here.

You taught me a new word: “fitment.” And while I don’t know exactly how it applies here, you choice of accompaniment to this beautiful song was spot on. It was certainly fitting — in addition to being tasteful.

Hi Sumanto, I liked this song too! Great ear to hear the placement of the scale sequence. That’s a great way to work on fitting a guitar part into a piece of music.

Sumanto!! That was freaking beautiful!!! Reminds me of Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (Sting) and his great tune Fragile. He is obviously influenced by Bengali style of playing. You sounded so relaxed and having so much fun! Very well done!

Brilliant idea, Sumanto! I love the song, and your playing fitted in just right. How did you make your guitar sound kind of like a sitar?

Thank you Sunjamr. I separated the audio from the video, put it on the free audio editor named Audacity, added some treble and then reverb. Then increased the amplitude by about 20% and then applied Normalize. The result is the sitar like sound. Then added it back to the video. Total 15 minute of work on the laptop.

Sumanto, this is really an excellent post. It reminds me of my time in India. There is so much talent there and the movie industry is huge. I love what you did here and the sound you got from your guitar made it fit so well. Nice job…keep up the great work. Cheers. Pap

What a unique idea of fitting a lead within an existing song, which you did extremely well. And a beautiful song at that. Great job and submission Sumanto!
