Hi Y’all.
This is Muddy Waters Hoochie Coochie Man done Duane Allman style. I’ve got it up to speed which I didn’t think I’d manage by now. Who knows what it’ll be like by July. Some more sung verses maybe?
Anyway I read someone online who reckons you should never cover a signature song by someone – to which I say bullshit! It’s my 60th on 2-2-22 so I figure I can do what I want … which I did … and had so much fun doing it too.
Enjoy.

Really very variable playing – great performance and singing. Very impressive your thumb picking.

Already very impressive playing, cloughie, also enjoyed your singing and the second solo is really flowing. I‘m curious how you will develop this one.

Congratulations on your upcoming 60th, Cloughie – you’re damn right, if it feels good then do it at least once (twice if you can get away with it 😳😂)

Incredible playing, Cloughie! Not sure how you can improve any more on that in July…you already have it nailed down! Well done!

Cloughie, Happy 60th man! That was a great choice and really interesting to watch. You used only your thumb for picking. I wonder what would happen if you emplyed the other digits? I find that absolutely incredible that you did that all with only your thumb. Nice job on the vocals too. You really belted that out and it was fun. Your awesome man. I really enjoy your approach to music and your posts. Cheers. Pap

Hey Cloughie, great work on this one. You know, if one were a pro or semi-pro, it’s probably not a good idea to cover someone else’s signature piece, but otherwise… have a blast, and it’s clear you are! Enjoyed it a lot!

Great choice Brian! Great start: Both playing and vocals. That is gonna be a BLAST to see you in July just cut loose on the gitfiddle and sing your heart out on the vocals! Are you gonna use a pick? Alternate picking can double the note count – when indicated. Just a thought. Half and half?? Thumb and pick? Great song, great playing. And Happy Bday! What a cool date to turn 60:

Take it on the road! You worked up and down the fretboard beautifully and, more importantly, captured Muddy Waters’ vibe.

Excellent! Not only do you play like Muddy, you also sound like him. My question is, how could you possibly improve on this after 6 months? What’s to improve?

This is some mean Hoochie Coochie guitar playing and vocals here Brian. Your finest performance in my book. Happy Birthday for next Wednesday, I’ll join your club later in the year! All the best!

Nicely played and great tone. It’s pretty tight now. Interesting to see what you do in July -Pro?
Techy FYI – your voice is distorting probably because you are too close to the mic or too much gain on your preamp.-

Yeah my first attempt at vocal recording was naturally a balls up so that’s definitely a learning curve between now and July. I used the mic that came with the Scarlett audio interface and apart from getting too close to it, it also sounds a little less crisp than I’d like too. Not sure if I can get a decent sound voice recording with that gear but I’ll experiment. Any thoughts are most welcome. Trouble with that song is the dynamic range is from talking to yelling basically 😂. We live and learn my friend!

Fantastic, Brian! And you’ve got the vocals to go with it, darn! You thumb picking technique is fascinating to me but I can’t imagine all this performed any better but I’m sure you’ll surprise us! You gotta be someone special to have your 60 on 2/22/22 – Happy Birthday and party on! 🙂

I am covering somebody else everytime I play a classical piece so why not with this. Very enjoyable to listen to. Like others have said, you seem to have this one down pretty well already.

That’s already really cool Brian! Happy birthday in advance!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.

Hi Cloughie,
Thanks for this. Nice Duane tricks in there. Your vocals are as good as Muddy’s. Sounds like you’re singing thru an old Champ.Bruce
Just focus on the notes you DID get right . . . Frank Vignola

I had a lot of fun listening too. You can cover whatever you like as far as I’m concerned.

Very cool, Brian! To me that was already a “July-version”, though I am looking forward to what you come up with. I am getting 45 on 2-2-22, by the way… 😊
