Inspired by some classic tunes, if you can spot them. I mixed mine/Brian/mine/Brian to add to the challenge.

I enjoyed this much! good showcase,,couple bumps but expected at least it isn’t fake/spliced and dubbed .. I am one who either keeps deleting my mobile phone recordings until I can get close to perfect.. think it helps instead of cheating with recording software ,, anyway you certainly played some cool improvisation over this!

Thank you. Yes, the bumps are very annoying but if no one was allowed their bumps there would be no live music and no challenge … I have to remind myself each time. It’s like snowboarding, if you don’t fall off, you’re not really learning anything and when you do stop falling off, it gets boring.

I also record in one take, usually there are some mistakes 🙂

Complimented Brian’s composition beautifully. I love how your video turned out with you and that cool strat silhouetted against that winter scene. Well played and lovely tone.

Yes Jonathon, that’s how I meant it, exactly what I do here too, and don’t mind as much either falling off because as you say, without the bumps, there wouldn’t any challenge, good point, again look forward to any future showases.. my last one was bumps and lumps omg i don’t mind it myself quite accustomed to falling and sliding down the steep double diamond runs too!

Very nice, Jonathan. You managed to intertwine your improv with the lesson so that it’s hard to tell which is which…and that’s the goal, I believe. BUT – I’m really glad I’m not where you are, because we’re having a great summer here in the southern hemisphere.

Nice Jonathan, I heard bits and pieces of maybe ‘Unchained Melody’? ‘Down On The Boardwalk’? Not sure, they blended in very well. Also, the video technique was really a cool idea.

Hey Jonathan, I meant ‘Down In The Boondocks’ but I don’t think you’re old enough to remember that song. I give up. What were the hidden classic tunes?

Hi Jonathan.
Really a good idea to mix your own and Brian one. The result is good, it’s clear that you know where (chord) are you in each moment and the licks are tasty.
good job, good sound also… and good idea to play in front of a window with this landscape too !!!

Great sound and improvisation. Very good from the beginning to the end.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Well done blending your own stuff in. Must be a Shadows tune in there, but I can’t remember the name of it. The way you keep coming back to Brian’s… you must know exactly where you are at any given time – well done.

Jonathan, this was fantastic man. I like the back and forth between your version and the one I came up with – but to be honest, your stuff worked far better! Beautiful phrasing – and snowy backdrop 🙂 Thanks for sharing

Thanks, everyone for your encouragement. I just pinched a few tunes from some old songs from the 60s which are forever etched into my memory:
* the introduction to 24 Hours from Tulsa
* “You, ooh, ooh, ooh, my brown eyed girl” from Brown Eyed Girl and
* “High in the sky is a bird on the wing, please carry me with you” from Island of Dreams.Jonathan Amos, Matsuyama, Japan
