Would anyone be interested in a “jam” session.
Im thinking we use any existing backing track.
The idea is, first person records themselves playing over first 12 or 24 bars and
posts it on AM. Next person downloads that track and records
themselves playing the next 24 bars over that track
and so on. After we get enough recordings we can post it as a final production !!
So who is in?

so this guy isn’t talking parallel modes but that’s another interpretation getting out of a pentatonic.. flats sharps etc..i think I’m understanding it’s about which basic theoretical concept but they all land on the same six strings/patterns all.. just the way you want to learn them.. shessh some have no basic theory and just go it by ear.. but i am into learning more how to interpret using basic theory concepts ..
i have some ideas,, still.. bottom line is simply knowing the scale patterns in any key..know your octaves.. know intervals.. sharps flats that modal stuff all is easy with practice.. anyway that’s where I am nowadays… modes ..knowing my relatives major /minors.. i like practicing oll this on zombieguitar.com.. that Brian is cool instructor.. Brian here is awesome but for simple basic theory highly recommend the site i mentioned,,
i also enjoy much from fretjam.. plenty cool free lessons there too!

Great idea, Craig!
I’m interested! I also think, we should use an existing Backing Track, maybe Blues, but anything else would be fine, too!

Okay great @John h, @AndreM, Eric C and @Sunburst lets keep the ball rolling.
my idea for a track to jam to is from EP116. Its a slow Gm Blues (buddy Guy).
Any other suggestions?
I have created a folder in my “box” account that already has the backing track.
Here it is https://app.box.com/s/n623a9eq1km25w9xtgfhan0e2f5sam6o(Im not sure if you can upload to it. Can someone test it and let us know)
Im thinking we use this folder until the final product but if that doesnt work we could just post here. Thoughts?

I like the the track yes I’ll save it, going to see if i can use ableton try collaborate otherwise i’ll just do as I always been ,, i’ll certainly try,, ain’t going no where..might as well learn DAW okay, i’ll be also looking for solos here in that key progression.. sure there’s enough to keep all here

Great choice, Craig, I like this track too.
The download works. Upload to your folder doesn’t work. Seems to be ‘read only’. Can you change this to uploadable? An alternative could be using Dropbox, this is free as well.

Okay so we are just waiting on Andre to confirm but I think he will be cool with the choice.
So lets get started. John H, would you like to have first lash (its OK to say no).
If yes then record maybe the first 24 bars and post the result here and we will go from there.

John h. Post your recording here so that the next person can download it and add there session right where you finish. Then they download here for the next etc. Then when we have all had a lash we can post the final version in a new thread.
Andre, blueski Eric and sunburst do you understand how this works? Anything to add or questions?Wish You Were Here

AndréM

Andre just audio for the first time. If we get it rolling maybe a video compilation. I gave some good editing software for that.

Ok… I am ready to share my part. However, the file is too large to upload to Active Melody. I am wondering the best way to share the file? I cannot get into the site from which Craig started this project. Maybe I will send it to him then he can upload it back to his site then the next person can access it. I don’t know. Any thoughts… please advise.

Hi John,
there are several ways to share your file. The easiest way would be, if you have an account for soundcloud.com, box.com, or dropbox.com, you could upload it there. The accounts are free of charge, you just have to register. Another way is to send it via mail, if your provider allows this large file.Eric
-
April 6, 2020 at 2:28 pm #168107
Let me know if there is a better way to share this than posting it on my Soundcloud account and having you upload the file.
-
April 6, 2020 at 3:05 pm #168110
Use We Transfer. After the upload you can have a download link created,
and this link you can share. ( You have to click the three pionts )
It works with MP3Blue

Your contribution was really good, John! Great sound and playing! I managed to download your file as an mp3-file by using a program which only runs on Mac (Audio Hijack). So, it might be a good idea to share it via We Transfer.

Hey guys, to keep things consistent I have created a box account that we can all use.
Box account is http://www.box.com username is active.melody.jam@gmail.com pwd = AMJammers001
I will maintain it.
I have copied Johns fine performance into the audio folder. Great effort John.
I have added extra time to the overall track so its about 9 minutes, plenty for everyone. Lets keep it to about 24 bars each ( a guideline NOT a rule!). I have converted it to a wav file as this has a better quality. Can we all save in that format?Andre can you download and perform next, then upload to the same folder with your name in the file.
then Sunburst (if you can only do video, no problem I can strip the audio from the file and edit into the track.)
then Eric C
then BlueshekiIs that Okay???
BTW I am in Australia so the time variation makes it a challenge to all be active at the same time. So bear with me.

Yeah thats a great performance Andre, but what we want is to record ourselves from the point where the previous musician ended, not from the beginning. its all good now I have edited it and uploaded to the box folder.
Also can we save as a wav file please.
Okay so next up we have sunburst. Hopefully you have a handle on your DAW by now.(If not just do a video and I will take it from there
Go here Box account is http://www.box.com username is active.melody.jam@gmail.com pwd = AMJammers001in the audio folder download Andres contribution and add yours. Andres finishes at around 2minutes 25 seconds so record yourself from that point. Then upload your file to the box account.
