Im very happy to present our very first collaborative worldwide jam session. Here is a minor blues number in the key of G using the backing track from EP116 with (in order of performance) John H, Andre, Eric C, Craig S and closing the show a solid performance – Bluesheki. If anyone else would like to join us for the next performance please show an expression of interest here. ALL WELCOME!!

Sounds great Craig – really cool! There’s a bunch of us musos bunkered down in the Cotswolds trying to find how to jam together like this but we haven’t found a way to do it yet. We tried Zoom but it doesn’t work with more than 1 playing at the same time. JamKazam is tricky to use. How did you do it? What platform did you use?

@david m. Its pretty simple really.
1 First person downloads the backing track
from Box account http://www.box.com username is active.melody.jam@gmail.com pwd = AMJammers001
and records themselves saving the track as a WAV (bigger but better quality than mp3) then uploads to the same box folder2.Next person downloads that new track and records themselves from where the previous person finished….and so on.
Until we finish then we post for all to enjoy!Wish You Were Here

This is the best thing since sliced bread! This is a big league jam that you all put together! A standing ovation from me to all of you. I’d be interested in doing one, but I think my soloing skills need some work first. Awesome job everyone and great idea Craig!

Great job guys! Everyone sounds very professional. Your song is really well mixed, super good quality. I wonder what it would be like to do something with some videos of each player, maybe kind of like the Playing For Change project. Apparently they prepare a jamtrack which each player can hear through headphones, then they record the audio and video and sync it. I would be interested to know the details of how they do it. If every player had a laptop with a DAW, it would be easy, but I think in most cases they send a recording team. Have a look and see if you can figure out how they make their Songs Around The World videos:

@sunjamr Steve
Funny you should post this as I was thinking of attempting something similar. I have always recorded my video and audio separately and synced them so I am very familiar with the process. I wonder if anyone else would be interested in a video jam project? Just record you video and audio separately and I will do all the heavy lifting

Awesome playing guys. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to tell who was who, and where each player started and stopped, but after having listened to each player’s previous posts on AM, this turned out to be no problem. Seamless transitions between players, and all with their own styles and in the groove. You guys are really good!! (Reminded me on some of those Clapton jams with other great players on the internet.)

Here go to the download and read the readme file with the instructions from Craig! Very important.
Then the wave file is downloaded.
If you have this on your DAW, your part will take place at this point, which Craig specified in the readme file.
Be so kind and start your recording button at the beginning of the backing track; even if you’re only supposed to add your part a minute or two later. This allows Craig to put all wave files on top of the mix. It’s a lot easier for him. When you have finished your recording, you can upload it to Craig’s box above.
@Steve
@Craig
I’m afraid that it could be awesome. I watched the video that you posted; man, that’s cool. This track is my favorite anyway (Stones).
However, with some preparation as it could be done, it can be really good.
Technically, a wave file should be created, as it is now. During the recording, a video is created at the same time, which is then handed over by everyone synchronized with the wave file. In total, the wave file and the synchronized video are transferred. If something is not quite right, the sound can be taken from the video and corrected with the separate wave file.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Awesome! Funny I discovered this thread after I collaborated on the 2nd jam 🙂
This is a great idea which requires dedication by Craig so I’m very thankful to you! Let me know if I can help somehow.
I’m also interested in the video jam project. Until now I’ve recorded my video and audio together (using Quicktime Player) but I’m learning to use Reaper as a DAW so I think I can record video and audio separately, I’ll give it a try.

For live jams there’s another thread where I explore some options – by now what I like best is Jamulus:
