Can someone explain to me what devices and apps are being used by members to record themselves and then upload to the AM site? Thanks!

Audio file saved to MacBook Air desk top then uploaded to Bandcamp (on line site to showcase your songs), then copy the Bandcamp Link and then past it in the AM
Field (with you into text). I get my audio file from my Artist Studio One software (came free with my Berlinger two channel interface).Matt

By far the most people upload to Youtube, then insert the link into their forum post.
The most basic way: Record a video using your smartphone, and just upload it as is to Youtube. You can get better quality audio if you buy an external mic (Shure MV88, for iPhones) for your smartphone.
The most advanced way: Record the video using your smartphone, while simultaneously recording your audio through an audio interface (Scarlett 2i2 usually) into a DAW (GarageBand, Reaper, Ableton Live, Cubase, Logic Pro X). Bring the video and audio files into a video editor (iMovie, Adobe Premiere Elements) and sync the audio file with the video file. Add a title. Upload to Youtube.
You can record your guitar by either directly plugging it into your Scarlett, or by putting a mic in front of your guitar or amp.
Once you decide which way you want to go, ask any questions on the forum and someone from the Council of Elders will reply.

There is some good basic information here given by Bryce, our (former) Forum Administrator:

great advice so far. I’d suggest checking out the link JoLa posted if you wanted to record audio and video separately. I had a heck of a time syncing them up, until I watched Bryce’s suggestion of “3 quick strikes” in the audio and video recording around the 6:20 mark. It’s brilliant and saves me tons of time!

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I’m not into buying recording gear at this time so I guess the simplest way is just to try and use my Android phone. Is there a cradle or do you have someone else hold it? Then is it pretty simple to find the uploading tools on YouTube? I’m assuming that you have to have an account. I just have no experience at this and don’t really enjoying fumbling around with electronics, I’d rather play music.

If you don’t want to spend the money on a smartphone tripod, just prop it up on something like a music stand or lean it against your laptop screen. Most people start out saying they hate technology and just want to learn guitar and don’t want to be bothered with learning to record themselves. Two years later, they have all the gear I mentioned and know how to use it. And their guitar playing skills are far better because of it.

I am using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, my Mac desktop, Garageband for audio. I tend to video with my iPad or iPhone set upon a tripod on my desk. When I make a video, I use iMovie. The Mac applications seem to be pretty easy. Also, I am started to mic my amps and or acoustic. I am also experimenting with Ableton Live. I upload to Soundcloud or Youtube.

I’m such an idiot. I kept getting emails about AM jammers. I was like fuck that. I’m not a morning person. It just dawned on me, that maybe it stands of something even more obvious.
