I’m thinking about buying an Epihone ES339 PRO guitar. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Never played one, but I like the fact that the body is smaller. I would buy one.

I tried 0ne also tried 339 Gibsons! I would think it is up there too in quality better affordability..but it all comes down to what it sounds like,,If I were in the market for one, I’d compare it to Gibson ( hands on ) or at the least find and read reviews and ratings online..probably some even great reviews and comparisons on youtube! used or new, think it is a good guitar! gl

I tried one at Guitar Center a couple of weeks ago and love the size but I thought the sound was not as good as the Ibanez AF75 and other Artcore hollow body guitars. Having said that it’s great value but if you just strike the strings unplugged & plugged it just didn’t have that blues/jazz sound to me. It’s all subjective so you may love it. Anyway, I love the Epi guitars but I think Ibanez has the edge on this one. My two cents.

Richie,
I bought an Epiphone ES339 Pro last year in sunburst from Sweetwater. It’s a beautiful guitar and sounds fantastic. It has two tappable humbuckers with tone and control knobs for each. I have yet to find a blemish or fault with it.

I played the Ibanez AF75 also , and it sounded fantastic , and was a little less expensive . The Ibanez is a full hollow body where the epiphone is semi . I’m kinda in a debate with myself on what I should get . Looking for that jazz blues sound not gonna rock out with it . (But check out Paul Gilbert on YouTube rocking out with it) Gonna be a Christmas present from my wife . Lol

I’ve tried the Epi ES339 and it’s great, but before you decide, try the Gretsch G2622 Streamliner Center Block Double Cutaway electric with two BroadTron humbucking pickups and the spruce center block. It’s a bit lighter than the Epi, has great playability and a great sound. I was all set to buy the Epi until I played the Gretsch. It’s comparable in price to the Epi, and it totally blew me away!!!

I own an Epi ES339 and like a lot of Epiphones its a great playing guitar. The size is one of the things I like about it. I had an Epi Joe Pass Emperor and it was way to big for me. Tone, of course, is subjective but jazzy tones do come out of the neck pickup.
Whatever you decide on have it setup to the way you like it by a pro. -

just an update . I sent messages to 2 guys I became friends with on facebook. Tony Janflone sr , who is a great teacher , luthier, and one of the best guitarist in the Pittsburgh area, and Stephen Delach who plays for Billy Price (sang on Roy Buchanans first 2 albums). These guys are super people. They both recommended looking at the Ibanez. Mr Janflone told me he would set it up for me (awesome). Thanks for the input guys, these forums are great and the 339 will be next yrs fathers day present. now to figure out what guitar I want for ground hogs day, flag day, valentines day , Chinese new yr…………

Congrats on the discovery! I’ve long termed the Ibanez hollow & semi-hollow body guitars as the poor man’s Gibson.
I own 2 older semi-hollow Ibanez – both are AGS-83 guitars – and I love them. Great build quality and great necks. And as cheap as some of the Ibanez semi-hollows sell for – they sound pretty good too. They are built well enough that, if you choose, changing pickups is a reasonable option b/c they’re not a guitar that a person would want to sell.
I really like the new Artcore Vintage line that they’ve recently released

Thanks Scott. I really like the feel of both of them although there are slight differences in the two
I like the flame maple guitar with the factory pickups; the bubinga model plays great but the pickups, even though they are Ibanez ACH-1 just like the maple guitar has, they are so sharp that they remind me of a Tele.
When I have some time, I have a pair of DiMarzio’s to drop in it; Bluesbucker, which is a P90 pickup with dual coils to kill the noise, for the neck and a 36th Anniversary PAF for the bridge. Should be a great setup for blues & jazz

Congrats on the new guitar, richie b! Welcome to the Ibanez hollow/semi hollow club.
I chased the Epi ES335 and ES339 last fall and ended up with my Ibanez AM73B. Wonderful guitar.
Enjoy,

Congrats on that guitar. Your guitar has Ibanez Super 58 pickups, which is their better pickup and get rave reviews.
The violin burst is stunning – I had a AS83 with that finish that was as nice as any guitar that I’ve seen
Enjoy
