Wanted to revisit this song for some time now and I had promised Tim ( @bluesguitarlvr )a proper playing of my Squier SE before the pickups are changed, yep you got it. A set of Wilkinson single coils arrived in yesterdays post and I am just now waiting delivery of a MIM bridge coming from Fender.
It is also another chance for me to doff my cap in the direction of those we have lost and those who are missing from the forum because life sometimes gets the shitty..Anyway. Played on my fav Reaper amp, Tweedsman on warm settings with touch of slapback..

Excellent playing Billy and a very nice tribute to those we’ve lost and those missing from the forum for personal reasons.
Now .. tell me about Tweedman. What software amp is that? Is it free? I guess it’s a Fender sim. I use Amplitube 4 and I don’t want to clog my hard drive up with unnecessary stuff, but I like the sound you’ve got going there.
Oh and it’s good to see (hear) you posting again. Good man Billy.

Hey Martyn, thanks for taking time out to comment on my post..
To answer your question I have taken some pictures of “Guitar Rig”, so I will sequence them as the guitar rig choices come up on the reaper menu..no idea whats going on the forum wont allow me to add files.. once I find a photohost I will do a rig rundown for you in the “discuss your gear” section..

Billy,
That’s what I’m talking about! There you go. Great tone, I want that tone too. Nice bit of guitar playing there. That Squire SE is sounding terrific. Are you still going to change the pickups?
Beautiful tribute to those we have lost – life is short and we need to live every day to the utmost. Thanks for posting this one. You need to post more often.

Thanks Tim,I just hear the pickups as being too tinny and for the price of a few beers then the wilkinsons are a great upgrade with a fantastic tone, One thing that I am learning quickly about the SE model is that you can adapt it to be anything you want it to be.The build quality of these guitars is bang on, great necks and full width body.
I am working on the Christmas song..hahaha me and a Christmas song, bah bloomin humbug!..hahahaha. I’m not wearing the bobbly hat though, I draw the line right there…..Billy..

Looking forward to hearing the Wilkinsons. Do you have to solder in the wires to connect them or are they the type that just have connector clips..? Did you learn how to do this at the Luthier classes you went to or did you just pick it up off Youtube?

Hey Billy, that’s a nice surprise. You got a good sound out of that guitar, and your playing was steady and fluid.

More than beautiful!

Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Well played, Billy, and a nice idea to remember those lost. A beautiful song that I also wanted to learn, but I stumbled over the second half, too.
The PUs sound good to me, but I am curious how the new ones are going to be like. -

The PUs sound good to me, but I am curious how the new ones are going to be like. Thanks Gents. There is a lot more to playing guitar than learning the notes of a song…The whole package is an amazing journey of twists and turns. This is one song that I will return to again and again until I can master the basic mechanics and then feel comfortable enough to add my own improvisations to it.
Seems that quite a lot of folk like the sound of standard pickups on this guitar, too bright and too tinny for my old ears tbh but changing the pickups alone wont change that, I still have to be hunting down replacement potentiometers of 250k to replace the stock 500k ones in the guitar. Thanks again for the input.

You really have a nice feel for this R&B stuff. You deliver it with a lot of emotion and it comes off very natural. Great tones from your Guitar, are you sure you want to replace the PUP’s? I am not familiar with the Wilkinson Single Coils, but am anxious to hear the upgrade, cause right now that guitar sounds damn good! Nice playing.

Hey Alberto Thanks for that.
I do like these ballad type songs that Brian is so very good at creating, Possibly once the Christmas challenge is done I may try one of the Santana style lessons or try learning Samba Ta pi.. that really would have this here house rocking..
Yeah, I do like the sound from the SE, It certainly has its own voice but as I mentioned before it is a voice that to my ear is bright and tinny.
Changing the pickups alone wont alter anything, the POT’s have to be replaced too. 250k POT’s instead of the weaker factory fitted 500k POT’s will hopefully calm the brightness....Billy..
