Hi Folks! well here goes my attempt at EP127. Recorded using my SLR camera with just its built in Mic on a tripod just in front of my Fender Deluxe reverb Amp. I recorded just over a week ago and since then I have managed much better, smoother attempts, Honest!! haha. Hope you like it. Good luck to everyone else and a Big thank you to Bryce for making us all stressed for another month!! joking apart, have really enjoyed this idea and I think it really helps progress. Its like getting homework from school!! Cheers Phil

Phil! Amazing! Thanks for all the updates and for playing through pain. Your right hand technique looked terrific and I even saw some hybrid picking! I am really happy to see that these have been little bumps in the road that won’t deter your progress. P.S., 20 takes is nothing. The delete icon is my best friend.

Bravo man! Well played.. Hey I think Tony Iomi (sp?) (Black Sabbath) only has 3 fingers, so, don’t sweat it. Think you are doing just fine.. Keep it up..
Don't practice till you get it right, practice till you can't get it wrong.

Hey Phil, well done!! Adapting to the finger loss and playing through the shoulder pain, you are an inspiration to us all. All the parts of the lesson are there and put together well. Congrats.

Hi Phil,
Fantastic and great to see you are healing up, well it seem to be in stages; and hopefully no more accidents!
What a great posting and it’s reassuring to know others have lots of takes and deletes LOL. But I’m sure we’re also all improving and getting more relaxed with posting works in progress which really encourages us all to share more.
Really pleased you’re on road to recovery……………..cheers Bri

Brilliant Phil, I enjoyed your version of EP127 and also your introduction, man your an inspiration I can tell you!! If I went through what you have gone through I think I would not have been so positive, so in future if I find myself in a similar predicament I’ll remind myself of your positivity.
Thanks fot that!

Hey Phil I forgot to ask what bike you fell off?
I do road cycling; well did until consultant asked me to stop during treatment last year to avoid being injured in accident and delay treatments. So looking forward to getting back on the bike this spring.

Cool Dude,
I would sit on the sofa if I was you rather than that stool with a swivel. We don’t want any more accidents!!!!
See you at the Thomas Tripp next week? Should get up and play EP127. I’ll hold your coat!

Nice bike Phil,
It looks like you push some big gears in the sportives, is it 52 or 54 on he front. A friend rides a Lightspeed titanium and he loves it.
After 11 years on a aluminium Cannondal Aero, I got a Trek 5.5 Madone carbon in the spring 2012 and now enjoy compact gearing ratio so more spinning. But MrC started his episodes with me in September of that year so training has been intermittent since.
I did manage to organise a charity ride for Cancer research in May 2014 to complete UK Stage 1 of Tour de France; from Lees to Harrogate and it was a hilly 134 miles. I managed it in 8 hours 59 minutes and 57 seconds ride time, so really pleased to just pip the 9 hour mark!Getting back to the gym and starting strength and cardio training again, did 15 minutes spin today but will be riding again by spring.

I, for one, am gob-smacked at how well you played that, injuries or not. I don’t know about you, but more and more I find myself trying to avoid doing things that might damage my arms and fingers. If I miss even about 3 days of practice, my playing goes downhill and it takes a while to get back to the same level. And here’s a thought: I started off using only a pick, but now I play fingerstyle at least 80% of the time – just because it seems easier to me. And I’m increasingly using my little finger. I’m pretty sure I could become fairly skillful using just my middle, ring, and little fingers. I’m sure you’ve thought of trying it.

It’s clear that the loss of your finger ends up being no handicap at all. Right hand technique was great. I’m more amazed that you could do that with a shoulder injury. Even without the “excuses”, your playing was fine.
My bike is a custom steel frame made by a guy in Oregon, for his company that he calls Landshark. I am a little bit jealous of the titanium bicycle, but I’ve always told myself that I need to lose the weight off the gut before I can start obsessing over the weight on the bike.

Hi Phil,
How can anyone beat that act ??? You are definitely the poster child for ActiveMelody.com Now of course I know you would much rather NOT be the poster child for our site but one can’t help but admire your persistence and upbeat attitude despite your misfortune. And you even sounded great….!!! What will you do for an encore? 😉 No jumping off of tall buildings, please….
Great job.

Phil, this is one of the coolest posts I’ve seen on the forum for many reasons. Your attitude and willingness to share is a massive inspiration to all of us and speaks volumes about your character. The fact that you’re still going, not willing to let a few setbacks stop you from learning is awesome! Your playing is fantastic on this as well! I’m going to share this on Facebook right now 🙂 Hope you don’t mind (if you do let me know and I’ll pull it).

Hey Phil, after watching your video, I was reminded of one of my favorite Monty Python skits: The Black Knight (from the Holy Grail movie)… It’s only a flesh wound – come back and fight you coward!
