Hi Members,
I gotta be honest, I did a lot of takes on this one. I found it really difficult to get the emphasis on the chords right. I recorded with the ES335 middle position through my Vibrolux with some reverb and tremolo and a little slapback from the TC electronic flashback pedal. Hope you enjoy.

That is one classy sounding, well played lesson there John! Nicely done! I need to semi-retire so I can play more. 🙂

Very nice John, just the fact that you can put this together so quickly and make it sound so good is amazing. I do hope to tackle this one eventually, the chords are really beautiful.

Very well played, John. It’s easy to see that this is not an easy one, and yet I didn’t hear anything that shouldn’t be there. At first I thought there was a little too much reverb and slapback in it though, but soon afterwards I felt it added a cool note of vintage. So, all good. Or better: Excellent!

Beautifully played! Love the tempo, the changes are seamless and the tonality really works.
Well done John! -

John,
I agree, very well played. Every time you post a new piece it just keeps getting better.PS. Nothing like the sound of a ES-335 and a Fender amp..

@Bryce, @Maradonagol, @kubrider, @Tremelow, @Scott M, @ranja,@MBaribe, @Brian,
thanks for listening and your kind comments. kubrider, I have lots of time now to noodle with these things. Brian, I would love to understand how you came up with this chord progression, is it by ear or something you’re familiar with? -

Hi John, your variant creates a cool voice. The Timing is very atmospheric. Also, as always, great played.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I liked this a lot John. I suggest you stop labeling things “attempts”.
The chord progression is fairly standard. The main things to notice, in the beginning is that, like a standard 12 bar blues, it hits the 1 chord at the first measure, the IV chord at measure four, back to the I on measure 6, and gets to the V chord on measure 9 (at measure 8, the Bm7 is a very common substitute for E7, so it functions the same), and then ends with a two bar turnaround. The main twist in this is going to the maj7 chord at measure four.
Someday, if Brian doesn’t object, I might start a series of posts on chord substitutions. I know we talked earlier about having a theory corner, but nothing has come of it yet.

Beautiful John, it is always a pleasure listening to your recordings. Everything time you post something it makes me want to learn it.

Thanks again everybody.
@Duffy , thanks for the theory information, I’m going to go over that carefully today. Calling it “attempt” indicates there’s a recording or video within, as opposed to a question. They are always attempts, though, 10 minutes after I finish I’m kicking myself about something I could do better. @Bryce had mentioned the possibility of a theory forum. I would love your input on chord substitutions. We could include Scotty’s fretboard lessons, lick ideas and I would finally get around to some fretboard pattern videos. I know @Brian is working on a theory course but he has assured me he promotes us teaching each other. -

Very very nice. I like very much the use of the reverb and the slapback. It points out the bluesy feeling of the song that reminds me some Q tarantino’s soundtracks
