A study in how to embellish a song and so much of what George does relates to double stops.
Wonderful isolation of our favourite instrument in a great song during one of rock’s most iconic moments. Nice to even hear George miss a bend or two. There are a whole series of George isolation videos like this.

Okay, couldn’t resist. Listen to how George finds different syncopated strumming rhythms separate from the main guitar.

These isolated tracks of George Harrison demonstrate to me how much of an accomplished player he was and yet relatively understated in his standing against John and Paul.

Yeh, that series of videos just started showing up in my Youtube algorithm. I had not watched any until now. What amazes me the most is how they were able to isolate his guitar so well. I have some software that has the ability to isolate individual instruments or voices, but it doesn’t work nearly as well as this one.

The Beatles were so successful in part because they were real team players who focused on the song and not on themselves. George Harrison played very much from chords with lots of syncopation and he often combined the individual phrases and song parts in a very unusual but effective way. And also because he often played the individual verses in different variations, he is not easy to cover. I find the new techniques of separating individual song parts fascinating because you learn to understand the songs better.

I always thought that the work of Harrison as a musician but also as a songwriter has always been underrated and that he was a key member of the band as much as the famous duo Paul & John (with Ringo keeping everything tight as a drummer but also as a person). Always been my favourite Beatle.
