Hi All,
A couple of years ago I was embarrassed many times when people asked me “to play something”. When I played something I was working on I somehow missed almost every note. Many times I just played EC’s Tears in Heaven instead.
However because I did not want to be surprised by that question anymore and I learned to play two short songs. One on the accoustic and one on the electric guitar. For this Challenge I played the electric part. The funny thing is that I had to study this one from the start again because I did not play this one for a long time.
When people ask me to play something now? I do something totally different. Since I moved houses I have a guitar studio in the back of my office. I do not drag people in there in my domain. I just show them one of my Monthly AM Challenges on youtube in my living room ;-). That works out fine for me!

Really cool Vincent. I reckon people would be really impressed when listening to your playing of this blues for sure. Again … just love your red Tele. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Great piece and very well played. I guess “Forgetting everything” when asked to play something is a common issue; even I am thinking of learning up two popular songs.

Learning two show numbers was a wise decision Vincent. We’ve all been embarrassed at some point or other with a total blackout as to what or how to play. Your electric showpiece was spot on and would certainly impress an impromptu audience.

You had some very fine bends and vibratos through out your composition! Great tone and overall playing 🎶🎸🙂Don P

Well played Vincent – that was a bit of a masterclass on vibrato and bends.

The rocking blues is always a good choice, Vince. Especially if you play it as passionately convincing as this example. 🤘

Good plan to be prepared! 😀
I really liked that! Though it’s mostly a single note piece, it sounds really full. Mesmerizing in fact. Great tone too!

Great fat tone. And some great blues!!

Well, you don’t appear to be missing any notes now. Sounds more like you’ve been playing with B.B. King. Or maybe you dragged him into your back room for a little practice.

Hey Vince, nice bluesy playing, for sure! What a brilliant idea; “Hey, play something!”, “Well, do you have your phone with you? Pull up YouTube. Here’s a vid!”

Very nice playing Vincent! I know exactly what you mean about playing for others! My mind has gone blank many times and I always manage to make more mistakes! Great idea regarding playing the AM videos!

Hey Vincent.
Wow what a tone!
How are you getting that?
Really nice playing I’m sure I recognise some of those riffs…
Anyway, I don’t think you’d be worried or embarrassed playing this in front of others.
Sounded great.

Wonderful tone Vincent ! Just the right amount of grit for some blues attitude ,some cool licks going on there , i like the way you return to the
“ build a chord “ idea after each phrase ,keeps the listener engaged .Martin

Well played Vincent! Great blues tone and sound.
This comment really gave me a chuckle: ” I just show them one of my Monthly AM Challenges on youtube in my living room ;-). That works out fine for me!”
My strategy exactly. Very rarely, if ever, does someone ask me to play.
But if I have an AM challenge or other recording that I like I send it around and say, “hey listen to this please.😃” -

HNY Vincent! One of your strengths as a player is that you convey real emotion and meaning with your lines. It really comes through with your use of techniques like vibrato and bends, and with your touch in sounding out notes. Inspiring to hear. Your points on playing for others are also spot on – it takes very intentional work to learn pieces for performance, and for maintaining a state of readiness. As an alternative, it seems very Beatle-esque to leverage your AM studio recording work to share your music with others! Great idea. Cheers, Tom

This piece shines like your beautiful red tele, Vincent. What a fabulous showpiece and played so well with bendings and vibrato. I guess, now you have a new video to show in your living room!

Hey Vincent, that was a very nice standalone Call & Response Blues. Played very well…loved these vibratos!! Awsome gritty tone from your 60s Tele😉.
Happy new year to you.

Liked very much your standalone call and response blues, Vincent, so well played and what a fantastic crunchy bluesy tone from your Tele! I’m sure it would be a success if played for an audience!

I like it, it’s a perfect way to show off your abilities! Slow enough to avoid mistakes and very expressive with the call and response, nice vibrato…! Showing one of the videos always works but you’re right, it’s good to have a couple of songs polished and ready for stage 😉

Great display of technique with single note lines yet full and with grit. The conversation shines through. Great comeback to direct people to the YouTube channel if they want to see you play.😂

Nice stand-alone blues composition, Vincent. Great licks and bends. And I love those vibratos. Great tone from the guitar, just the perfect amount of overdrive.

Can’t go wrong with a blues. Tasty playing and tone there Vincent. I must say I like your modern, social media based solution to the question too 🙌

I truly enjoyed it Vincent…especially the extra vibrato at the end! When you say you learned this do you mean you did your own improv?

Nice choice Vincent and very well played! Congrats!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.
