Festive greetings to all, hope everyone’s managed to stay safe.
The challenge was pretty open and allowed for our original tunes to be submitted, so I thought I’d develope a tune that I’d been messing about with for a couple of months.
It took quite a while to complete because I’d not gone beyond the 3 note runs. I found the the 3 note motif quite interesting and versatile – it can go backwards or forwards and also onto the higher or lower strings. As far as possible I tried to keep the 3 note format going in the higher, final section, (where you may notice Brian’s triangle and square – which I find really useful in many different contexts). I’ve called it “Noodlesome”.
I hope you like it – the link is
Best wishes to all,
Mike

Well played Mike. Great idea to use the 3 note motif. I also liked Brian’s triangle and square approach, a gem of an idea. Clean playing and great use of chordal play and single lines. All the best and a Happy New Year to you!

Very nicely done Mike. I see what you mean about the three note motif – I think this is a great idea, to take something like that then develop it in different ways. Excellent.

This has a kind of movie score feel, I think. Clever composition with some interesting chord changes. One observation, though: You would get a much brighter sound if you used a pick instead of your thumb. Have you tried that?
-
January 5, 2021 at 5:46 am #229264
Thanks for your kind comments, Paul. Yes I did try a pick but I couldn’t get the triads at the end to sound right – not fast enough I suppose. Also I quite like the softer sound – I think a little more jazzy, Mike

Well done, Mike. Good composition.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Nicely done Mike ,catchy little noodle there , I’m with you on the triangle and square lesson so much can be gleaned from that approach, you’ve taken some simple concepts and pulled this out of the hat , timing was bang on as well . Excellent well played .

Thanks Jola, appreciate your comments. It’s funny that the bass slide caught on – I only did it in November because I momentarily forgot the last two chords, Mike

Thanks for your kind comments, Bruce. The guitar is a Peerless Gigmaster. I’m told that they’re made in Korea in a factory that used to make Gibsons. It’s a fairly close copy of one of the Gibsons that they blinged up with gold paint. The man that set it up for me tells me the pickups are Epiphone. It’s my favourite! Mike

MIKE, that was a great job at “I’ll take four notes or one idea and make it very interesting!” And you did!! Great job! Listen to SRV on Little Wing: The whole darn thang is Em!!!! Over and over and Over again!! Except, he owned it and made it his own. So did you! Nicely done Mike. Happy New Year! Bob
