I can’t tell you what a thrill it was to collaborate with David L on this number. It’s an original song, written by myself, called: Go With The Flow
A couple of times, David said to me that what he likes to do “is simply to add a little salt to the soup”. I’d suggest that he does a heck of a lot more than that! His solos have really elevated this song beyond anything I could do alone.
David has mixed the audio wonderfully and did a brilliant job on the video production too! I just love the balance between David’s solos and my rhythm and bass playing – I think they blend so well 👍
Hope you enjoy watching and listening to this as much as we enjoyed playing it ❤️
David suggested that I post the lyrics, as many guitarists can identify with these words:
Noodeling on my guitars
My playing’s getting stale
Don’t need me no more complicated
Riffs that I should nailFind some gentle jam-along
Just fit in with a band
Some easy-going bunch of guys
‘Cause I need a helping handTook my axe from out the case
Unsure if I should go
The guys all nodded, “Come On Up
Just one thing you should know,
If you wanna play along with us
Just Go With The FlowThey’ve had many a heavy guy
Who wants to own a room
Played real loud and drowned ‘em out
They got rid of him real soonIf your fingers hurt by the end of the day
It’s blues keeps us alive
If you don’t get fazed when the boss man says
It’s now 2 minutes, not 5The Crossroads and the Highways
Took me far as I could go
I’m happy just to hang around
And feel my playing grow
If you wanna ride along with us
Just Go With The FlowIf your strings are feeling twisted
And your fingers getting fat
And your shoulders sag when you grab your axe
Just come to where it’s atRestring your guitar my friend
And put away that frown
And play a simple chord or two
No need for feeling downDoes it matter if you don’t play no lead?
Well we say, “No, no, no”
As long as you can feel the beat
And join in, Hi and Lo
If you wanna sail along with us
Just Go With The Flow
So if you wanna ride along with us
Just Go With The Flow
If you wanna play along with us
Just Go With The Flow❤️

I have to laugh because Robert B in the post just before this commented on how difficult guitar is and how much there is to learn. Great work, gentlemen. Your lyrics are right on point, Mark, and I marveled at your bass skills. Great lead work complimenting all these talented AMers, David, and I love the black hat to complement my favourite white hat.

Wow! Excellent collaboration guys!
Enjoyed your Lyrics Mark, it describes pretty accurately what I have gone through with the guitar over the years. Lots of bumps on the road but enjoyable at the same time.
..and David, always great to hear you. One thing I admire is how easily you seem to pick up and play with others – that is a huge skill in itself.

Wow! Nice collaboration guys! One of the cool things about this site is watching as people grow in their skills. Singing and song writing are things I have not even attempted. Love the lyrics and glad you wrote them down Mark. Great job,

Awesome performance, my friends!! Great lyrics, Mark. And you are right: the lead parts flowed perfectly with you bass and rhythm! 👍🏽 I also like the video work! Is it coincidence that the blue in the background is the same or is it designed? Anyway. Bravo!

Mark, I love your composition, reminds me a bit of Brit Pop style of the 90s.
You are right, you both complement each other with rhythm and lead.David, your guitar solo sounds fantastic! Love your tone, phrasing, licks🎸👍. With your “salt” you have given that song the right flavour.
Well done guys!🎸🎸

Thank you so much everyone, really appreciate your wonderful comments! 👍👍❤️❤️
I hadn’t noticed the matching blue backgrounds 😂😂😂 Pure coincidence as far as I know – maybe David did some video masking magic – looks good though!
I’ve played Bass on a few of my own numbers, but lately I haven’t bothered to video it. The original intention was to just play Bass and sing, then fade into the background and let David take centre stage; I found though that I needed a Rhythm guitar to play along to, and as I’d recorded it I gave it to David to include or omit as he pleased.
It was odd how difficult it was to sing whilst playing Bass. I can do it okay with my other guitars, including finger-style, but this I found a challenge. I had to overdub my vocals in a few places where I fluffed it 😊
Thanks again ❤️🎶

What a catchy song, Mark! Your last songs was very good, but this one is for me your best one so far! The lyrics are very meaningful and fun for us guitarists and really they flow seamlessly with the music. Didn’t know you was also an excellent bass player, and could play bass and sing at the same time! And, of course, wonderful work from David! A really great guitar player who not only plays very well, but he’s also able to find the best melodies for complement the song: a true musician!
