I put new strings on my guitar today and noticed that the high E string I accidentally wound the string up the post. Will this harm my guitar in any way, or possibly just affect the tuning? Can I loosen it and redo it? They are Elixir polywebs so they will be on there for a long time.

Depending on how many wounds you have on the post it could slip off the post. Other than I don’t see any harm in it winding up the post.
Rewinding is an option.
That’s my two cents.

Yeah jdubjam,
Martin Guitar have a youtube video on restringing your guitar at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIzVdvzn8d8 which I have found really good. They advise that the string be wound DOWN the post so that it follows the break-angle from the nut to the headstock because this helps with sustain and ensures the string is properly seated in the slot.
Hope that helps.

I like the video. Looks easier than what I currently do. Thanks.

What do you think of the polywebs? I’ve just fitted nanowebs after using ernie ball slinkys for a few years now but thought I’d try the elixirs to see if they last longer and justify the price hike.

I never tried them on my electric. I have played them on my acoustic and did not like them as I felt they were too coated.

Im with Bryce on this one, the polywebs are to thick I use Elixir nanowebs 80/20 and phospher bronze on other guitars and like them better. Elixirs do last longer thats for sure. I even tried some other coated strings and they did not last near as long. My martin guitars came with martin sp lifespan strings and I have found these dont last long at all. From what I have heard about Elixirs is you love them or hate them. I love them, I use them on my electric guitars as well.
