I have a CD with the above title & it has many english bands of the 60’s playing blues that eventually reignited the careers of many American artists from Chess. The poms were so into the blues back then & there was no segregation problems they’d faced playing the chitlin’ circuit back in the states that it was a “no brainer” for them. Muddy Waters career was flagging with Chess having a new star called Chuck Berry & rock & roll now the flavor of the month in the states.
One of the english bands at the time was Chicken Shack lead by Stan Webb & keyboard player/vocalist, Christine Perfect. They were the backing band for Freddie King when he toured Britain back in the 60’s & according to Stan, was blown away that the english kids new all his material. Blue Horizon Records had had some success with the band Fleetwood Mac led by Peter Green & was looking to increase their stable of artists & Chicken Shack was just what they were looking for. They had some success back then with a cover of Etta James, “I’d Rather Go Blind” but Christine had now met & married John McVie of Fleetwood Mac & was to go on to much greater success in that band. Well Stan & Chicken Shack are still touring as far as I know & he’s a fine guitarist. He & Peter Green shared lodgings together back in the 60’s ( a squat apparently) & he was obviously impressed by Peter’s tone that he had his own Les Paul wired out of phase. Anyway, I’ve linked to a Youtube video that shows Stan & Chicken Shack performing live in the U.K. I hope you enjoy it. :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujc-GwtKto8
