All,
I have been pretty productive this morning. I managed to record three performances and edit two which I have included here. The first is BB King EP259 and the second is me trying to play slide guitar. I learned Duane Allman Style blues solo in the Key of D in open E tuning. I have been learning slide since January. It is a pain in the butt but I am trying to stick with it because I would hate to lose the bit of technique I have managed to get down so far. I hope you all enjoy and I am looking forward to the May Subscriber challenge submissions.
Thanks,
Patrick -

Good one, Patrick. You really shred on that slide. Did you have to put heavier strings on that SG?

Thanks Steve! It’s a bit different than learning guitar because the right hand seems to be the most relevant hand to getting the right sound.
Bit no, I have 10s on there and the action is low in case I want to tune it to standard and play regularly. As far as I know some people raise the action up High and put heavy gauged strings on so that they can really lean into it!

Great playing on both Patrick! I love that BB King lesson and need to go re visit it. The slide work is really coming along. I attempt it every so often but like you say, it’s something you got to stick with.

Thanks Helen.
The BB King lesson took a few weeks but the slide lesson took months! I am not picking that up as fast as regular guitar playing but I plan to stick with it 🙂

Well done Patrick. Two great performances with which to have morning coffee. Love ’em both…. Great job on Statesboro slide and the BB solo was spot on. I saw the Jerry Garcia Band at the Stanley Theatre Pittsburgh PA circa 1981. I went by myself. Opened with ‘Deal’.

Thanks John. That’s incredible that you got to go see JGB. I bet you had a blast. I’ll poke around and see if I can find the show. I was supposed to be there but I was born like 6 whole years later haha. The dead / jerry are probably my biggest musical inspiration. There music has so much to digest as a guitar player.
Thanks,
Patrick

Blistering Patrick! Speed definitely isn’t an issue for you and you play with great attack, feel and have the skill of dialing in great sound and choosing the right guitar too. Enjoyed both videos. All the best! 🥸🎸🥸

Two brilliant posts, Patrick!
I love BB King, but I prefer the slower BB King lessons (my favourite is EP041), as I can cope with those! This one is way too fast for me! You play it with real attack and blistering pace… a really professional and polished performance!
And the slide guitar is great! Well done on two cool performances! 😎🎸

Impressive performances, Patrick – especially the BB King one. I attempted this myself and it’s a great lesson! Respect buddy 👍😎
