Music-AMG has great contributions to the setting of an E-guitar.
I have here one word, as I use my E-guitar set.Perhaps it is somewhat helpful.
First Step: Setting the neck adjustment.
I use the E String as a ruler and hit you in the first and last fret.
Exactly in the middle of those two points, should be between the String and fret will create a distance of around (0,05 mm) 0,002 inch. That is enough
The neck should be a little bit concave.
The setting is effected at the neck adjustment screw.Second Step: Strings
Only now I place the string spacing at 12. Fret. I will do that with the bridge.
I take first the e`String. I’ll take a distance of about 0.06 inch (1,5 mm).
To do this, I’ll take a pick with a thickness of about 0.06 inch.
Now I check at what fret the guitar Pick between the String and the Fret no more falling down.Third Step: All other strings on height adjust
At the e`-String to determine at what fret the pick with 0,06 inch (1.5 mm) thickness between the String and the fret is fall out.
e` = 14. Fret the Pick fall out (for example, you’ve found)
and than
B (h) = 13. Fret must be (should be) the Plectrum fall
G = 12. Fret … (and so on through to D, A to E)
E = 9. Fret must be (should be) the Plectrum fall. This increases the string spacing is linear!
The E String is at about 0,07 inch (1,7 mm).Should the distance for you to be low, take a larger distance. Then take another pick. It is important with the method, the rounding (convex) of the fingerbord to capture. Therefore, a pick.
After that the Intonation is set. That’s a different topic.
And finally,…. have a lot of fun

Hi Wilfried
Got a question for you. You mention a pick, but how do you feel about using your thumb when going for the intonation. I mention this because my thoughts would be that the natural soul of the body might make a difference then using a pick when going for the intonation. Just thinking here only. The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

I mention this because my thoughts would be that the natural soul of the body might make a difference then using a pick when going for the intonation. Just thinking here only.I think he is referring to the string height, which you set before intonation. I was told for string height, you should use a 1/64th’s ruler and at the lowest, should never be below 5/64’s. But, in all honesty, I just go by the way it feels, for me. As long as I don’t get a fret buzz.
If you watch the intonation video I posted, he says that there is a maximum AND a minimum you should be aware of when setting intonation. Each way either shortens string length or lengthens it, which affects if it makes harder to adjust or not.
Good post Wilfried. thanks.. great info..

So before you have the Intonation set.

Hi Gene (@Music-AMG),
Yes, your first sentence says it correctly. You’re right, you should not make it science. I had myself in the past trying to, because I know it should, how best to proceed. That is just the way. If you follow this path knows, you may well consider. So I’m doing my setting. Then it can happen, that I also this change anything. But I think the guide is good. As you can consider, and does not only anything.Wilfried
