Baritone strings on a standard scale length guitar

A couple of weeks ago I changed the strings on my favorite slide guitar from GHS Boomer 11-53 to D’addario baritone light gauge 13-62. This guitar is generally tuned to open C or open Cminor and I’ve been wanting a meatier tone than the set of 11s were giving me. Some work had to be done to the nut and bridge and the intonation need to be adjusted.
There have been no issues so far. It stays in tune. Its easier to fret behind the slide. It is not hard to play without a slide, although I don’t have the action very high. The meatier tone I have been looking for is now there.
I’m a Joey Landreth fan and really like his tone. He uses baritone strings on his Collings guitar so I thought I’d give it a try.

This is the guitar. 24.75″ scale and if you look close you can tell I had the neck set a little further into the body than normal.

Hi Chuck lovely collection, never seen anything like that before looks like a P90 in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck, looks like same make in the rack behind, did you get these custom made.

Only being trying slide for about six months after listening to Sonny Landreth and he really cuts through the mix with that strat at times, I only have an acoustic at present, hopefully you will let us hear you play these.

That is a Lollar Chicago steel pickup in the bridge and a Novak Goldfoil in the neck position. Made for me by Benford Guitars. It is what he calls a half custom – a standard neck but the body, etc are custom. Surprisingly inexpensive.
Sonny Landreth is a phenomenal player.
Slide guitar started out on acoustics, just saying….

Hi Chuck had a look on the Benford site and read some good reviews on the web appears to be a good place for a custom.

Was on the lollar site and one of the demo tracks for the Chicago Steel by Arlen Roth Toolin had me thinking sounds like Sonny and appears he was on the track,

That Lance Keltner track is what got me to try out Cminor tuning. The guitar he was playing was part of the inspiration for this guitar. I had a Coodercaster with the Lollar string through pickup when this one was built and have now settled into the Benford guitar(s).

Joey Landreth’s quite a good player but his stuff doesn’t grab me, same with a lot of. Lance Keltner however his Mystic Redneck album has some tracks I really liked like Ode to the 9th, Not gonna be Availabe, Baby Makin music all had me blasting away with the phones on 😏
