Bad Penny Rory Gallagher

Hi all,

Been down a bit of a rabbit hole with his music the past couple weeks, and my god, this man is lightning in a bottle.

And also criminally underrated.

Anyway, here is me trying to capture at least a hint of his essence.

I’ll probably spend the rest of my guitar playing journey failing to perfect this.

Any tips/advice on how to get close to his tone without using an AC30 would be most welcome!

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed that. To get that tone, unfortunately I have the same question.
I also am a fan. I have some vinyl by him, 1975 Sinner and Saint.
He also plays alto sax, harmonica and mandolin on it.

I can say I am not familiar with Rory Gallagher either. I will say that I really like the nice overdrive tone you got out of your guitar on this one – kinda gritty but not too much so.

Rolling Stone magazine once asked Hendrix what it was like to be the best guitarist in the world…Hendrix replied, ‘Don’t know, ask Rory Gallagher’.
Gallagher was a brilliant live performer, I still remember seeing him in the early 1970’s. That’s how old I am!

That took me back some years, not listened to Rory Gallagher in what seems an age, he still has a huge following here in the u.k. and of course his native country of Ireland.
I’m going to sit down tonight and have a Rory Gallagher sound track and a cold Guinness..
Excellent playing Liam, you imho have captured the essence of the man himself.
