Greetings all,
I own no stock in Anytune, and have nothing to do with it other than as a user, but I’ve been using it pretty much ever since I joined AM. It’s an app for iPads, iPhones, and any Mac computers. I use it to slow down Brian’s demos and jamtracks (sometimes to 70% of the original speed), loop some of the difficult licks so I can run through them repeatedly (while annoying my wife) until I get them, and change the pitch of a downloaded song or jamtrack I want to play along with. A couple of months ago I emailed the support guys with a question, which they promptly answered (as they always do), and in turn they invited me to be a beta tester for their new version. The main feature of their new version is something called Reframe, which lets you isolate and mute a vocal in a song, or isolate an instrument and mute the rest of the song. I did become a beta tester, and had lots of fun with it. I can take a Bob Marley song, for example, and remove his voice so I can jam along with it as a backing track. It does a great job on a single voice, but has some difficulty on multiple voices. Same with instruments. Still, it’s a very useful tool to have in your arsenal. The beta testing for iPads and iPhones has just finished, and the new version is up for sale (at half price for the holidays). The Mac version is still being developed, but the Reframe upgrade will be free, apparently. Riffstation does something similar, but I find Anytune easier to use, and it’s cheaper.
Sometimes I import a jamtrack (not including Brian’s) into Logic Pro only to discover it’s a half-step out of pitch. To correct the pitch in Logic Pro is – for me – difficult and tedious. So I discovered I can correct the pitch in Anytune (takes less than a minute), export the corrected jamtrack as an MP3, then just import it into Logic Pro. Voila!
