It seems there are several music-based AI systems out there by now, and more coming all the time. I wonder what this means for the future of music? When humans are replaced by robots, will the robots prefer to listen to AI music or the old-fashioned music once created by humans?

        Here’s one you can try:

Nope, but just out of curiosity I gave a try to this tool 😅!

I wrote this input for the song, before in Italian and then in English (translated with Google Translate, no time to write my own translation)

“The world is falling apart, I can only fight but I don’t know how it will end, but I will fight to the end for freedom”

Here the previews in Italian, two variations in a soulful, acoustic style:

          https://songer.co/songs/j5dg87m5hu4w0lfy99krwnfq

and the English version, 2 variations in a rock, soulful style:

They’re not different from thousands of pop music songs you can hear on the radio. I don’t know if robots will prefer robots music. but now humans they like very much homologation, and everything must sound in the same way, whereas back in the ’70s originality was the winner. In my opinion, AI will take it to the extreme the homologation, a process the started slowly since the ’80s, and now is at at its culmination.

I actually like both of those versions. They sound quite professional, good phrasing, good dynamics, nice variety of instruments. And we are only just now in the early stages of using AI for music creation. And robots are getting better and better at using their hands and fingers. So I predict my grandchildren will have a humanoid robot that can play a guitar flawlessly. And sing in his AI voice. He will stand in their living room with his Robo-Strat guitar and create an original song in a few seconds, then play it for their entertainment. They will be able to customize it as he plays it, by telling him “slow it down”, “make it jazzier”, “switch to female voice”, or whatever.

I did give the App a try Steve, I entered Blues/Acoustic and yes, a song came back within 2 mins. I don’t think it’ll be a smash hit though.

I listened to the English versions of Guidos songs and thought they sounded too perfect. There were no drum fills in various places…the drums were always too perfect for me.

I don’t know where the AI songs are headed but I can see them helping someone using them to get ideas for a song.

The software drummers used in Logic Pro are based on some kind of specific music-based AI, and that has evolved to a whole new level in the latest upgrade. Now the drummers are a lot better at analyzing the arrangement and song, and adding in the recommended fill licks and rhythm changes. I also notice that the fill licks have become more elaborate, and they seem to fit nicely into just the right spots within the melody lines.

Haha, good question! I think that will depend on how they’re programmed. But who knows.

As for Guido’s songs, I think they don’t sound bad at all. Standard, plain vanilla compositions.

I never tried one of these AI song tools before and I don’t think I will use them to create songs for me. I would completely miss out on the fun part that way. But as an idea generator or for some parts in the production process? Yeah, why not?!

PS : I’d love to have some AI in my video production. “Synch the video to my audio, and then do the dozen usual steps before you load it up on YouTube.”

Gave it a try Steve and got a song back in minutes. Was supposed to be blues but both versions were country. AI taking over I guess.
All this AI talk has me craving another Terminator movie. Number 7 is due next year!

Maybe the robots will prefer human created music and that will be reason enough to keep us around! I’ve used Chatgpt to help with creating lyrics. It is a helpful tool for getting ideas to work into a song. Thanks for sharing the link to songer.co. I’m gonna check that out!

A local cricket team I occasionally play for recently produced a match report in the form of an AI generated song for an infamous game where the opposition, Frensham, bent the rules of gentlemanly conduct for the standard we play at. Hence the reference (if the link works) to “not walking” (back to the changing rooms) when you know you should and so are cheating.

I wouldn’t bother to listen to much of it unless you have a good working knowledge of cricket but I was impressed by AI’s effort and it seemed a fun use of the tech.

I also hope the robots have a better moral compass!

Thanks for the link Steve, otherwise I probably would not have bothered with AI at this stage. I was impressed with the songwriting that was given back to me in 2 minutes flat. A bit of fun just typing in a few key words and getting a reply. Have some songs now to put together with music. I also wanted to test AI if it could write a song for Active Melody with a few key words. And yeah, it did have a heart. So it’s a YES from me.

Thanks to Active Melody, I’m living the dream,

Wow, that is truly amazing! I guess we could choose any random lesson and generate some pretty cool lyrics for it. Next question: Could Brian use AI to generate a guitar lesson?

No. I don’t want to feed into it. I’m fine with AI crunching numbers and finding a cure for cancer, but it doesn’t and will never have a soul.

The music I’ve heard it create has been sterile and without feel. Same as a kid cheating on a paper and just trying to hit all the right points; it’s just copying, not writing anything itself.

                                Nope.
