Yep, before I knew about winning the John Page guitar, I had found another semi-hollow guitar that I had been looking for. This one is a Craigslist find and it was in new condition
Its an Ibanez AGS83 made with bubinga wood; an African rosewood species with a reddish grain that is found in Africa and South America
I’ve owned an AGS83 for 3-4 yrs, that has flamed maple top, sides and back and I’ve been very impressed with it. Impressed so much that I decided to have both models and so that I don’t have 2 with near identical voices, I plan to drop a set of Dimarzio pickups into the Bubinga modelThe Bubinga model is probably a third lighter than the maple and the thickness of the neck on the Bubinga model is thinner than the maple, more like a ’69 ES-335 that my cousin owned
If you are looking for a good semi-hollow, keep your eyes open for these. They don’t show up too often but when you do find them, the price is right. I go the Bubinga model for $275 with Rhino gig bag

Bubinga looks fantastic.
It has a beautiful grain.Wilfried
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Bubinga? I thought I’d heard of every kind of wood used to make guitars, but that’s a new one. Need a sound check, please.

Bubinga? I have a cowabunga if anyone is interested 🙂
Actually very pretty guitars. Never actually seen an Ibanez like that and I am often keeping a watch on Ibanez semi hollows

The model made with Bubinga was a short production run but if you watch Guitar Center and Ebay, they do turn up from time to time.
I have 335 copies and its a toss up which of these body style that I like better. The AGS83 to me, feels like a Gibson and the stock pickups, even though they are made with ceramic magnets, sound really goodHere is a current solid body model made with Bubinga,
I will do a sound byte once I get new strings and check the set up

Great find on Craigslist! They have this one at my local music shop but I bought the Ibanez Artcore AF75 instead. It was a hard choice but the AF75 felt smoother in my hands.

Hey Keith, they look absolutely great, looking forward to hearing one of them at least.
While you’re typing instead of playing, you sure you don’t want to do a Blues Roots post? (I’m planning “Work Song” for tomorrow.)
