The CAGED system can open lots of doors for us, musically speaking, and used in conjunction with other things like scales etc. It can go a long way to making us real musicians, (especially for lead playing, which I’m not doing here. I’m just doing the chord shapes) For me this was a great lesson. So, I’ve taken just a simple 3 chord progression and tried to play it in 5 different places on the neck. Most of the time, I’m simply playing the middle 4 strings
Key of “G”. The chords are G, D and C. It’s a 1,5,4 progression, not a 1,4,5
Using the CAGED system I’ll start with the G shape since that’s the key it’s in and move through the CAGED system with forms E,D,C,A using the 1,5,4 progression.
Also,….I tune my guitar down half a step
Thanks for the listen
PaddyboyPS I was AOL last month because of surgery……Appendicitis….all is well.

Great done Pat. You have explained the basics well. It’s so important to know where the notes are. Start with a few and constantly expand the knowledge. Regardless, you have your voice great presented to your guitar playing. Great contribution.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Great lesson. Thank you. You are right. Knowing the CAGED system, and the notes that are in them will take you a long way. I’ve been trying to learn that for decades! I will use this as my instruction video. BTW, your guitar seems to be tuned in a strange way. Did you turn it up?

Hide, My guitar sounds strange because the EADGB strings are tuned down to Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb.
I thought I attached my cheat sheet to this lesson. I’ll attach it again. Check it out.
thanks

Very cool, Paddy. You could be on stage, with a performance like that. And you make learning all those notes sound like a piece of cake. It’s a good way to approach it.

That was an unexpected bonus there, and very useful too. I sure am guilty of not naming those notes very quickly…Thanks Paddy. Glad you’re on the mend.

Your starting a song was a nice surprise, you’ve got a good voice, Pat! And you have presented your way of approaching CAGED which was interesting to watch. Great job, thank you, and I’m glad all went well healthwise ☺

This was as much of an instructional piece as as it was a performance. Excellent job my friend. You nailed the concept.

You clearly have a great understanding for the CAGED system, and seem to have a really good grasp on the fret board as a whole. Also, great job on the song, it sounded great and I love your voice.
