Hi guys….i’m having a lot of fun and some success with soloing to some of my fav tunes but I am having trouble with strings ringing out either after being played or if I bend up say the ‘b’ string, when I release it I get considerable ring from the ‘d’ and or ‘g’ strings…..any idea’s or suggestions please?….are there any lessons anywhere dealing with this?

        Neil.

I think Brian has a string bender exercise.. have you seen that yet?

Don't practice till you get it right, practice till you can't get it wrong.

Neil, it sounds like the G and D strings are getting caught under the fleshy part of the fingertip enough that you are doing a slight pull-off on the descent. The strings have to be pushed up with the B string but not too far underneath the fingertip to get trapped. It can also help to mute the D string with the side of the palm as the bend goes up.

Hey Neil, you are right where I am at, at this point in my learning experience. I’m really striving to minimize string noise, and once you focus on that, you realize how terrible it sounds. On my Fender Strat, pretty much every time I lift my finger off a string it rings out with the wrong note. I think it’s about the 3rd lick of lesson EP131 where you have to play 6th string 1st fret, then when you take your finger off, it rings out with 6th string open and sounds awful.

I did see a guitar master class on Youtube once and the subject was how to minimize string noise. The short answer is, you have to find ways to mute the offending strings. Sometimes you can do that with a spare finger from your left hand, but more often it seems like you have to use your palm. So here you have the situation where your palm is going up and down fairly quickly, and all the while you’re trying to actually play the right notes at the right time. Or we could just play heavy metal power chords and it wouldn’t matter.

Let me know if you figure anything out.

                  Hey Neil,
What has helped me out is recording these lessons and then catching the noise or other hiccups on playback. With all the repetition you will find what works best for you to eliminate unwanted noise and get a recording you can be satisfied with. The showcase your playing section is a great tool for me.

Ok….watched the lesson, then went back and tried it for myself and I just got mad….Brian’s bending is so smooth and mine?…..mine is just embarrassing lmao

I’ll be practicing this for a LONG time I think??
