Great lesson Brian
Spent a couple of hours on this one today.
And I think I understand most of the theory behind it!
Just interested in the movement from the Dm section back to the A.
I’m guessing the C# to B then back to A is just a chromatic walk up?
Charles Q says
Wow these last two shorts lesson are so good i wonder if you would consider teachin them in your regular format where you explain them
Jim M says
Brian,
You put smiles on my face with this happy Ragtime Blues.
William H says
Yes, yes, yes. More please

I am really disappointed ::the micro LESSONS have turned into micro DEMONSTRATIONS without any more teaching contents and explanations .What makes your teaching unique, Brian, is the way you explain and simplify things patiently , and repeat them over and over to help us improve and make progress.
Personally, I am unable to learn and progress without explanations.I have given up printing the music parts of the last 20 micro “lessons”or so, I even though I would love to learn them..The task is too much for me and I am pretty sure that I am not te only one in that situation.
I have made the request several times , asking you if you could resume explaining things in theMLs but received no answer
Thank you .All the best from France.

Dom, the MicroLesson’s were a bonus, they are in addition to the weekly in-depth lessons that I put out every Friday. I tried to make a variety in the MicroLesson section. These shorts have been very popular for certain types of people. It’s not for everyone, and they’re not meant to be instructional. They’re meant to be a fun little composition that you can learn at your own pace. Just think of the MicroLesson’s as a bonus, that’s all the section was meant to be.
Mitchell N says
I love the micro lessons. Keep them coming! I look forward to them whenever you’re able to put one out. They’re a mid-week bonus that brighten my entire week.
Mitchell N says
Another way to look at this is that not every lesson is for everyone. Personally I prefer the solo acoustic lessons but I’m not going to call Brian out on the lessons that are perhaps more to others’ tastes than mine. As well, the micro lessons I feel are more to test my ability to learn on my own. They present me with mile markers on my journey of learning how to improve on my own. Bottom line: focus on what works for you and try not to criticize that which might not.
Michael H says
I couldn’t agree more.
The diversity is what makes Brian work so valuable.
I also prefer the Acoustic material but would not dream of dissing the other material.

Hi Brian!
Thank you for taking a little time to answer me.I understand what you mean , yet I am still frustrated at the sudden change in the way you started presenting them,
Brian says
I’ve been creating these shorts for nearly 2 years now. I’ve received your other comments on this and know it frustrates you – i don’t see any other complaints. Just keep in mind these are EXTRA materials.
Michael H says
I think sometimes people forget these are compositions you create and share. Without the tedium of all the demonstration, explanations theory or otherwise it must be a nice break and well deserved.
This “bonus” material is greatly appreciated.
Brian says
Thanks Michael – It always amazes me when I make extra material like these that someone out there will complain about it – not the format they were looking for, etc. You’re right though, these are much easier to film – i just play through it and tab it out, don’t have to think.
Charles Q says
IT probably doesnt matter but i feel exactly as Domanique feels about the explanations your shorts are not like others they are really excellent lessons active melody is still an awsome site
Dominique B says
You are right , Charles, it does not really matter , I am happy I still have quite a few of the micro lessons that started way back in April 2017 with number 001. ML78 was the beginning of the new format ( without any explanations) in August 2022. There were a couple of surprised reactions, that is all.Iguess people are happy.
I was also shocked yo hear you say,a couple of months ago, Brian, that some people complained that you tallked too much!!!Please do continue to teach the way you do. A good teacher shows how to act and then uses his tools to help you perform. Keep up with the good job, there will always be unsatisfied people.Just ignore them. (By the way , when I started my remarks,
I expressed my frustration but , as I was convinced that there were quite a few people who shared my point of view, I meant to be constructive).
All the best!
Dom

more great stuff! & I appreciate the challenge of figuring out the micro’s new details on my own, reminds me of slowing down records….
Andrew C says
Such a great short peice – really enjoying learning it through the video / tab tool. I personally find it help my knowledge and playing to have a tune to learn WITHOUT a narration and by using the excellent tool to just slow it down and follow the tab. It’s different way of learning – but lets you figure out yourself what’s going on – how the chords are transtioning through the runs., what the melody notes, etc.
Great fun.
Cheers Brian from North Wales.
Michael H says
Exactly, well said!
Gabriel S says
This is a great lesson Brian. I’m really enjoying learning this piece.

Great fun composition to learn.
What make and model is your resonator guitar? It looks so cool!
Nick_66 says
That is a National Resophonic Tricone Style 1 guitar. Great guitar for playing slide! Check out Bob Brozman on Youtube!
Nick_66 says
Is that a Style 1 National Resophonic Tricone Brain!? What string gauges have you put on your tricone?
I own a NRP Vintage Steel Tricone and only play in open tunings with this guitar because of the higher string gauges on my guitar.
Brian says
That’s a style 1.5 – 13 gauge strings
