Description
In this MicroLesson (ML041) I’ll show you a very useful (and fun) exercise that you can use to help develop muting with the left hand while strumming with the right hand. Interesting rhythm patterns can be created when you can get your left and right hand to work together in this way.

Very very helpful, Thank you Brian
Great stuff Brian. No only a nice rhythm pattern but the know-how for developing our own patterns. Thanks again.
Rick
Thanks Brian.
What would you say are the relative merits of left and right-hand muting?
Advantages and disadvantages?
Anton, left hand muting allows you to create rhythm patterns. Right hand muting changes the tone – giving you more of a “chunky” sound.
Very nice. I started immediately to design other patterns and some licks to put in between.
Really works! Best micro yet!
Brian thank you so much !! I like it when I find your lessons challenging and for me that’s when you introduce a different strumming pattern. I’ve learned over the last several years through your lessons to get out of my comfort zone .
Excellent! Just recently discovered your website and I am amazed by how you much you have increased my knowledge and enjoyment of playing the guitar. Thanks.
thanks, turns out I really needed this….
This presentation was quite insightful. I spent a lot of time playing classical guitar before transitioning to rock electric guitar, which I still do now. I thought I could decide to be “lazy” and neglect picking up how to use a pick. This lesson is a great example of how a pick can be essential to setting the right mood for this performance.
