Freddy King used this 9th shape in ‘Hideaway’ (along with Clapton who followed) but in the key of E i.e. at the 9th to 12th frets – much easier to finger. Freddy stated he had learnt this from Robert Junior Lockwood.

This is great and simple. I notice that transposing down to G it starts to run off the neck. For E or F you need to go way up high on the neck. It is a high- pitched voicing and kind of difficult to reach that final barred one chord unless you drop way down to the lower frets. Is that what you’d normally do with this, or does this turnaround have some practical limits on a non cutaway guitar?
Brian says
For F – G you could play it higher on the neck… Maybe skip the first 2 chords and just play the Dim 7 chord. Get creative with it 🙂
