Description
In this guitar lesson you’ll learn how to play a Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired acoustic blues lead. I was originally preparing a jam track for this, but after listening to just the acoustic recording, I thought it worked better on it’s own (with no accompaniment). This has an SRV influence (at least the first half for sure), and the melody sounds familiar but I wasn’t able to identify what song it came from – so if you know, send me a message!

Can’t wait to get home from work and get started on this one. Your lessons are terrific. Clear, concise and very helpful. I hope Activemelody is a huge success for you. You deserve it!
Word!
Hey Brian I hear an old Otis rush tune called Keep on loving me baby in this tune, which by the way was covered most excellently by the Paladins!
Couldn’t agree with Steve61 more, long may you continue.
Thanks so much!
thx ur awsome
every song i can play i learned from u thx again
Very interesting lession. I love SRV. First part sounds a little like someting from Boom Boom.
it’s like a faster version of Mary had a Little Lamb
You are a very gifted teacher , many thanks to you I m making giant steps with my playing , cheers
boom boom
boom boom yeah yeah!!!
I think @Kingbee32 nailed the song!
I like your lesson. I would like to make a suggestion….You should talk about what lick goes over which cord. Not clear in the video. Makes a big difference if you are playing a lick and its not resolving the complimentary chord. Good stuff
Have joined so many guitar lesson websites and none have given me the cool chops that you have.
Bravo sir
Excellent !!!! Thakyou so much for this lesson.. 🙂
I think it is kind of a mix up of Boom Boom by JLH and So What by Miles Davis.
Great lesson and lots of fun…more acoustic blues is always good!
Hey Brian, every time you post one of these lessons I start out thinking I’ll never be able to play that, especially at that tempo. Then, lo and behold, within a few days, I’m playing it practically flawlessly. You are an awesome teacher. Keep it up!
Awesome lesson Brian, and so easy to follow, glad I joined your premium membership.
Are you using Medium, Light or Custom Light strings?
I have a hard time with the timing of the solo. I seem to want to enter too soon or too late. Any tips for nailing that down better?
Brian, you are by far the best guitar instructor on the net. Totally agree with DaveS. Just joined the premium and I’m sooo glad I did.
Thank you sir!
I Love your teaching style. I just purchased a Premium membership. Keep those “Blues” coming!
Great lesson Brian, I’m really enjoying your lessons. For those of us trying to learn more about intervals and theory could you briefly name each chord change in your lessons so we can understand cord changes for transposing into other keys. Thanks again
This was the lesson that made me get premium membership and it was well worth it.
My problem is the hammer-ons: sometimes they can’t be heard. I presume it is a case of building up strength in my fretting hand?
John Lee hooker, boom boom boom
Can you save Part 2 to your PC or Mac like you can the YouTube version?
Hi Brian I am loving this site but can you tell me how I search for lessons by number, such as EP028…I can’t see a search field anywhere! Thank you
Got Part 1 OK but when I went to Part 2 got no audio. I am a premium member.
Hi Brian,
I am a new member and I have chosen this as my first lesson. I love this SRV rhythm and lead, call and response style of lesson. I will give it my best shot.
Many thanks, Rob
Hey Brian—
Your riff is a variation of the main riff from the 1963 R&B hit by the Dovells—“You Can’t Sit Down”—covered by any number of groups, most notably (maybe), Paul Revere and the Raiders. (Of course, the Dovells were undoubtedly taking the riff from somebody else . . .. a bluesman no doubt). I first heard this song as an instrumental on an album by The Surfaris (“Wipe Out”). The riff—and song—went viral in the era. You can find most of the covers on You Tube.
How do I get the second parts of lesson I am a premium member
Chris, you just need to be logged in. If they aren’t coming up for you it’s likely just a browser issue - try using Google Chrome or Firefox and see if that doesn’t resolve your issue.
Hey Brian, You said you always like to say thank you. I have been a member for about 6 months and this is the first time I heard you say it. What gives?
I’M KIDDING! Lot’s of us thank YOU for a terrific site and lessons that are better than any we have come across online. You don’t need to thank us. The terrific lessons you post, your thanks to us is pretty much inferred. I hope you and your family retire young and lead prosperous lives for your work here. :O)
Hello, do you have a backing track for this song please ?
This one was a no accompaniment piece so there was no backing track.
You talk too much
having done a lot of the licks lessons over and over in the blues lead guitar course some of these sections are becoming a lot easier.
I know this is a old post but I’m hearing “All Your Love (I Miss Loving)”
I love this tune! Do you remember what strings you are using on your Alvarez then? Thanks.
Please help!!
I’ve been busy learning this extremely difficult piece (for me) of very nice sounding guitarplaying for 5 months now. I take my time, i want to learn it well.
I have much trouble with the first vibrato in the part 1 video at about 13.50 minutes in.
It’s me, i know. I’ve never been good at the wrist vibrato and i’ve been playing for over thirty years now. I’m very determined to learn it now or die trying, so to speak.! Now more than ever. Please let me know precisely Brian, is this really done entirely from the wrist? You make it seem so easy and i just don’t get it why i don’t get the same strong vibrato,as you do. Been trying and trying and trying for months in a row now, as i did off and on through the years, i did make some progress i think, but it’s only minimal. I have rather small hands. Now could it be that my wrist or arm is just not heavy enough for this kind of vibrato? I’m baffled, why is this sooo difficult for me personally? I can do about all other techniques, but this wrist vibrato. Sorry if i sound a little frustrated, i just want to break the back of my problem now and find out if and how i can ever succeed doing this indispensable technique and otherwise give up on that forever.
Thanks and keep up the good work, i’m very pleased with your excellent lessons.
Greetings Eric
It’ the intro to Slim Harpo’s ‘Got Love If You Want It’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJncHZgBkWQ
New member. I found you on FB or emails. Became Premium member last week. I try to practice everyday. Seeing progress.
I enjoyed this lesson. However, I could not download tab on iPad. Just a bunch of letters and numbers. Random. Is this an iPad thing.
Thanks Brian. I enjoy your instruction.
You can view PDF files on iPad. I’m guessing it’s a browser setting. Try using Google Chrome on your iPad and see if it works.
Awesome. Sounds to me a bit like Lightning Hopkins – Baby, Please Don’t Go.
Great lesson as always, been watching many lessons & am really enjoying them & learning so much ,just wish I had your abilities, you make it look so easy! Thanks Brian! This one reminds me of boom boom boom great song! 😎
I can’t hear part two. Is anyone else having this problem?
Great lesson, really glad I became a premium member. Some of the best instruction on the web! You continue to open my eyes to so many new ideas and concepts!
Great teaching Brian, thanks a bunch.
