Thanks Brian. One of the best lessons yet – so much good stuff in this one!
Not too difficult technically – but sounds really great. I don’t know how you come up with stuff this good every single week.
Glad I took out the premium membership : )

Brian, A very nice lesson for all. It l ooks to be a stormy week setting in here in the UK so this will make for some great practice for those many of us who are stuck at home in particular.
Thanks JohnStrat

Some tricky finger stretches in parts. Will need to work on this for a while I suspect, so makes it the more valuable to practice.
André Schrade says
Thanks from Switzerland !

Hi Brian, Thanks again for a perfect lesson on the blues, the A7 lick at 5.30 is worth the price of a years premium membership to me.
As John Strat says its very rough whether hear in the UK at the moment.
Kind Regards,
Myra.

Brian, At bar 13 we start with the awkward stretch A9, then proceed with the walk up on the b string from the C#3rd to the D4th. You don’t seem to say what the second chord is?
jgreen says
Certainly I’m no Brian…but if I can take a shot at this question – A9sus4 I think works.
E Minor 7th says
Great lesson. Definitely one of the best you’ve done Brian. Could I suggest you use this rhythm track as a basis for some lead ideas suitable for this soulful slow blues?
Ralph P. says
It’s really amazing that T Bone came up with theses ideas 80-some years ago, and the ideas are so good that they are still being learned and used today. When I think “jazzy-blues”, Stormy Monday is the first song that comes to mind. T Bone would be so proud to know his playing is still relevant and being expanded on in 2021.
I grew up with Allman Brothers version of Stormy, but later on became familiar with the Bobby Blue Bland version with Wayne Bennett playing guitar, and see how much Duane and Dickie learned from Wayne.
What’s your all-time favorite version of Stormy Monday Brian?
Jim M says
Way to “Bring on Home” Brian…..

Hi, Brian,
So how are you going to celebrate 400? What a remarkable thing you have done and how many thousands of people you have helped to become better musicians. Thank you very much! You have a lot to be proud of. Mark

Great. Also check out EP102. When B.B. died.
Craig G says
Can someone tell me…when I see a chord like A9/C# , does that mean the C# is the bass?
Craig G says
Never mind!! Figured it out I think!!
Will L says
Basically, “yes” 👍
John H says
You answered my prayers. You are nothing short of brilliant. You coulda played with you your Nashville Almond Joys live at the Fillmore.

A slow blues rhythm Masterclass! Oh yes! That’s next week sorted for me, once challenge weekend is over.

This was like a “refresher” course, bringing in some of the stuff from the last few weeks and pulling them together. Really nice. Thank you

David K says

Why no jam track?
CC says
I just want to thank you for all the great lessons including this one!
I hate that we are all locked up right now but I can not tell you how truly grateful I am for your lessons every week and those challenges at the end of the month.
Money well spent!!!
If ever there was a time to be locked in, it’s now with my (almost) new 339 and new Princeton amp.( My L1 is a little envious…haha)
A good friend lent me a 1934 National and your open D lesson sounded freakin’ “Amazing” on it!!
Once again, a heartfelt thank you to you and all your hard work and teachings Brian!!!<3
Brian says
Thank you 🙂 and those 339s are fantastic !
marcel C says
hello everyone,
I must say that I am loving every bit and beat of your work Brian. I feel I have made serious progress in my four month of daily play in your guidance.
Please keep on the thoughtful work.
I have a little request, I saw in some older classes that we were able to adjust the level of the metronome. I loved that because at first I was pushing the level in order to get into the tempo and square my play, but then I found interesting to turn down the level of the metronome and let it go with my guts ( so to speak 🙂 …)
Would it be possible to reinitiate this fonction that I found quite useful .
Thanks again for your musical generosity
Cheers

As a 70 year old having “played” for about 5 0 of them I can only say that I’m a complete novice but feel that once I’ve “unlearned” all that I thought was guitar playing it’s gonna be great to be one of the lucky people following this genius.
You are making an old man happy Brian please keep it coming.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you.
john l says
Simply, Thank You!!

Very smooth, Love it !!
MICHAEL C says
Love this style blues.. Thank You Brian . One thing that always confuses me is ” Time Signatures ” I see this is in 12/8 . Would love to see a lesson on figuring out and applying the correct time signatures .
Giorgos G says
Hi, Brian, just a quick question regarding the Chuck Berry Lick: you mentioned that it is minor pentatonic pt 1, but the notes fit better in the major pentatonic pattern 2 (the little box inside the minor penta pt 1. Does this seem wrong to you?
thanks!
Bill C says
Nice piece. Really simple timing……….not.
Jim Dog says
WOW! Great lesson. My brain likes repeating and reapplying previously taught concepts. They seem to make more sense the second or third time around. That’s learning not memorizing.
Your teaching philosophy is awesome. Thank you.
Buster89 says
Hi Brian. You used a 12/8 Time signature. Why not a 4/4 on this occasion ? I revisited lesson EP-102A which has a similar vibe (I think) and you used for EP-102A a 4/4. So why not 4/4 for EP398. Hope you can clarify.
Johannes S says
Would’nt it be nice to have accompaniment to this lesson?
I’m thinking of some organ, bass and drums.
erwin41 says
Great Lesson as always, thanks a lot, wished i had more time to play all this lesson more often. But have to make the best out of it.Keep the good work up.Brian.Cheers
Vince M says
Could someone help explain the D7 chord that is used in the beginning of the 2nd video?
I guess just in general, I am confused by that chord without having the D in the chord at all. Same with the A7. Is there a good way to think about that?
warren c says
Thank you , Thank you, Thank you….
Mark N says
This Blues/jaz style I just love, spent ages getting those tricky chords wight but so good for my ongoing development. The composition really reminds me of lesson EP017 albeit that one is in the Key of B and far more blues orientated. Similar structure though. Love it.
Angelo P says
easier if you go couple bars at time nice stuff
Ivan J says
You are the best Brian !! really love this !!!
