Description
This lesson is a bluesy, rock rhythm and lead that has a catchy riff which is repeated throughout the composition. In this lesson, you’ll learn both rhythm and lead parts. Everything can be played on acoustic or electric guitar. I’ll also explain the theory behind the notes so that you understand where it all comes from. At the end of this lesson you’ll be able to improvise in this style of rhythm AND lead.

That “Play Audio Preview” option/icon is a fantastic new idea Brian!! plus, a necessity when one peruses A.M.’s now vast library to find the right lesson one want to re-work.

Sounds really nice!
Hmmm, I wonder what some amp’ dirt and some ‘buckers would do to it?
fretbuster says
Played it on my Les Paul through a Boss ME 25 effects box on preset 14 giving a good bluesy growl, sounds pretty awesome
JohnStrat says
Indeed it does sound nice as Jeem says the idea behind the lesson is very helpful thanks Brian.

First off Happy Birthday!
Last couple lessons have been really great for me Thanks.
Have complaint though on today’s lesson, was able to view all lesson material
Except video tab. It’s says sorry couldn’t load video check url. Not first time I’ve had this problem
Could it be I’m using my iPad and this format not suitable? Thanks Brian
Brian says
Try refreshing – it should work now. Sometimes those videos don’t load the way that they should. If you ever see that in the future, just refresh the page and it should load. – sort of the online way of giving it a kick or two 🙂

Brain the last two lessons are great, they put pieces I had TOGETHER Thanks

Hi Brian,
I used to be able to download the MP3 tracks and store them in a folder on my computer. This was useful because I could practice with them in my music room without being connected to internet. I dont seem to be able to do that now unless i’m missing something. Great site I have to say, am enjoying it immensly.

I’d like to be able to do that too and I haven’t found a way. Is there an answer?

Hey Brian, really like the rhythm in this one. Thanks again.

Love it. Been jamming it out in the garden. Even the neighbours said they liked it…which is a first !

Hey Brian, that’s really fun and easy to incorporate. Very useful in spicing up some of the other things I already do. First thing I thought of when I heard the rhythm was some of the stuff Stephen Stills did in Suite Judy Blue Eyes.

Really enjoyed the rhythm part in this lesson thanks Brian

Another great lesson. I plan on learning this for my next acoustic guitar lesson. This seems to be another one you can go to the guitar store and check out guitars on, and not look like an idiot. Check out LEG003 which is related and also great, and on my must complete list too.

Brian thank you once again on the lessons. I really like the in depth look at how you approach soloing over chords . Please periodically continue these insights.

“Full screen mode is now available! Just click on the gear icon and scroll down until you see “View Full Screen””
BUT, when I click on “View Full Screen” I get a message that says “This site doesn’t support full screen mode!”
HELP!!
Brian says
Doesn’t work in IE – all other browsers should work.

Thanks for your quick and accurate reply!

Hi Brian, Wow – what a great composition (rhythm and lead).
Would you consider doing another two backing tracks – (1) rhythm guitar only and (2) rhythm and lead guitar only?
This makes for a simpler acoustic tune, must like other AM acoustic lessons :-). Just a suggestion to consider.
Meanwhile, sincerest thanks for exceptional lessons and inspiration!

Hi Brian…thanks for your lessons…you should have been a school music teacher :)!
I’d like to ask you a short question if I could…When looking for a guitar teacher for my six year old grandaughter, what qualities/qualifications should I and her mum look for in the teacher? Thanks Brian. PS We live in Brisbane, Australia.
Brian says
Hey Billy, I answered this question on the previous lesson when you asked it, you must have missed it. Be sure to look at my comment on EP164 🙂

Brian, I love Active Melody. I love the lessons each week and the way you teach them. As long as you continue to do a great job I will continue to be a premium member. Thanks Greg

Thanks for a great lesson. Been using active melody for about a month. Have only worked through 3 lessons and already my playing has gone to the next level.

Hey Brian – for some reason the PDF for the lead won’t properly load. Any thoughts as to why? I’ve never had this issue, so I don’t see how it’s on my end. Any chance of getting it sent to me? Thanks, Michael
ZagerGuitarFan says
Brian..I m progressing well enough but I don’t see the slide on the G string from G13 down to G10 at the beginning of bar 20 that you discuss (and play, which is difficult to see and interpret from the Tab) in the video. I see in the Tab the slide is shown as a slide down to G11, and playing that does not sound right. I have had quite a bit of difficulty seeing it, hearing it then playing it from the Tab. Can you please clear this up for me. Is the Tab incorrect or am I missing something. Thanks.
ZagerGuitarFan says
Sorry. I meant to say the slide was G13 down to G11, not 10, then the step down is to G9.

even though the free part of the lessons is good enough! thx

Brian May says the secret of a good guitar solo is that it’s singable. This one gets in your head so you can’t stop singing it! It’s more than just a good hook.
Rooster7 says
What gauge strings do you use on your acoustic guitars?

Hi Brian,
the Video Tabulature Breakdown really gave me a boost in learning your lessons faster.
