Description
This lesson is a follow-up to EP065 – Slow Acoustic Blues With No Accompaniment In this lesson, learn how to play a slow acoustic blues lead by yourself (no jam track required). You can play this lesson back to back with EP065 and will notice that they flow together nicely. As always, the goals of these lessons are for you to understand where these licks come from and how you can apply them to your own songs.

You’ll probably never read this but I’ve been with you about 3 years now and have learned a lot of your stuff but still get irritated when you talk a lot, get side tracked even if it’s relevant. Thank goodness for the slow walk through. I appreciate your teaching and all the lessons I still have to learn. Please slow down a bit, ok braddah?
terry b says
you should appreciate his lessons

Hi Brian – this is a great lesson – is there any chance you could provide video tablature for this (although I know it’s an old one!) it would be a great help.

This is very nice and I especially like the idea of linking it to the previous lesson to produce a longer solo. I intended trying to do this with 2 or 3 of the earlier unaccompanied solos, but I doubt it would have been this successful.

Brilliant!! Gives me a chance to review.

Really good lessons!!! Gives me something to work with. THANKS!
Tofttofly says
Thanks Brian for another great lesson. I really like the way this lesson covers most of the fret board, and the triad cord shapes. My old hands don’t handle the bar cords too well anymore. Really good stuff…..

Love but too much talking. Takes a long time to just get the info. You should have a separate video for the talking….but great lessons!

Great Lesson Brian! This is the beauty of the blues…even played very slowly it sounds good. The tempo of the slow “Walk Through” creates a lazy sittin’ on the porch feel.

Brilliant Brian, these latest two lessons are really great. What a great job you are doing.

..lovin’ these - keep ‘em coming please
doug.balch@gmail.com says
These two are going to be a bitch. Lots of notes. Lots of new licks, but like you said it’s the timing that is going to be tough. I’ll be grinding on this for a long time.

Thanks so much for tying this lesson in with last weeks. Love them both!

Hi Brian,
Thank you for the followup lesson EP 066. Just love original accoustic guitar blues and you make it sound just fabulas. I have managed by memory to have learnt both EP065 and EP066 but just need to brush up on the timing. After so many years trying to learn to play, I can honestly show folks something worth listening too.
Am privileged to be able to say it has been an enjoyable experience learning this music taught by you. Thank you!!
I will remain one of your dedicated students as long as you continue to bring us this great method of learning “Playing On The Porch’ Accoustic Original Blues Guitar Music.
Thank you so very much!!
Kind regards,
Ken Lewis

Love the two acoustic blues lessons. Love how they tie together. Great opportunity to really develop some super licks for the bag of tricks, and I appreciate the slow walk throughs.
I really like your approach!
Thanks

You said it, brother. Someone help me get this monkey off my back.
Scrumpyjoe says
Hi Brian,
I’m excited to finally get the timing correct when I play pieces like these. Your style of delivery and expertise is precisely what I need to correct those annoying little mistakes and habits you get into (through laziness) whilst playing by yourself sitting on the porch. Great idea to extend the lesson as the bottom line is to just have as many links and turn arounds etc in your armoury. Once you have them learnt then you just pull them out of the bag and throw them together. I’m in love with learning the guitar again after 50 years of playing and with your help hope to finally become a guitarist who can play any style.

lovin it more more more

This is one of your best compositions, Brian.

Great lesson Brian - you are stretching us a bit, but keep it coming!
It’s funny, when I listen to you playing a lesson for the first time, I find it really daunting, and wonder if it’s worth my while even trying to learn it.
However, your approach of breaking the lesson into manageable chunks really does work, and like others here, I get great joy from progressing to a higher level.
Sorry to hear you haven’t been well recently. I’ve had two stent operations recently, and have a review in October to see if I’ll require a bypass.
Wish it was all due to a former Rock’n'Roll lifestyle, but I can’t even blame that!
Never mind - I’m loving being able to throw a few licks together, thanks to you!
Pete.

Lessons EP065 and EP066 have a lot of content within them. A lot going on. They have become part of my warm up for acoustic and electric. They open up different insights and riff options. Both are really great lessons.

lovely lesson! motivated to master. thanks.
Mimdaddy says
Thank you so much Brian for these lessons.
65 and 66 together have really helped me with rhythm, cord progression , and licks that include slides and bends. These techniques are helping me move from just playing notes and cords into attempting to add some emotion into my playing.
At first I wished you mentioned which pattern the licks come from. But trying to figure that out myself has improved my understanding of pentatonic scales.
I’m a big fan of your website and always refer it in my conversations with other aspiring guitarists. Thanks again

Been with Active melody about 1.25 years and just went back in time to lock onto EP065 and EP066. These are great. It will take me a while to get them down, but they seem to be a bit more digestible than some of the newer stuff. It is all really good stuff. I can see in the more recent lessons, there is a bit more insight into the theory part and so you can see how these and Brian evolved.
Anyhow, will keep working at these piece by piece and get them down. And, oh BTW, all the talking is good and provides additional insight especially for those of us who are no Pros.
