Mellow Alt-Country Rhythm Guitar Lesson – EP089

Description

This is a laid-back, mellow alt-country style guitar lesson in which you’ll learn how to play rhythm and lead fills over an alt-country chord progression. I’ll show you how to play everything note for note and explain where these chords and scales come from so you’ll be able to apply this style to your own compositions. This lesson works on acoustic or electric guitar.

I’m experimenting with this new technology (below) that allows me to embed the tab in sync with the audio. Just click on the play button. Also, if you want to control the speed or even transpose it to a different key, just click on the little gear icon. Let me know what you think of this 🙂

Another great lesson Brian, and I love the new sound slice feature…that will be very helpful. It’s always great to have you explain the lesson adding you’re helpful tips and ideas along the way..but this will be a handy feature to be able to go to for quick reference when time is short etc.
I’ve always found using tab to be a great learning tool, add to that the features in the gear wheel for zoom and fingerboard notes and the tempo setting, this is a winner all day.
Only down side I found ( maybe it’s my iPad or Internet speed ) was the playback when slowed down began to skip about a lot..
But I don’t want that to sound like a complaint as I love the new training feature and just wanted to point that out…thanks for all your hard work and effort that goes into these lessons..

PS:  Agree with Doug Balch - a bit of Carlos would be estupendo.

it was my iPad, the slowed down tempo works fine on my Mac..also just noticed how you can move the orange bar about or highlight a passage with the bar and it will repeat itself over and over..very useful..;)

I like this style of lesson very much.  Most of my previous playing has been bits and pieces of isolated “licks” and “runs” without context.  I am beginning to connect the dots.  Thanks and keep them coming

Soundslice screen is great, makes it easier and quicker to pick up new stuff without having to dot between acrobat and sound files. Slow down and loop sections, hey that’s some great functionality, really puts activemelody ahead of the rest.
Well done Brian great to have people that care about their subscribers.
    Cheers:)

Great lesson. I have always used a finger picking style in my guitar playing unfortunately my picking ability is still clumsy, but I am working on it.  This will really brighten up my playing.

SoundSlice is a nice addition to the site. I hope you will add it to previous lessons you have already tabbed out.  You have posted a lot of lessons that II am still trying to work through and Tab players are a great tool for working through a difficult section. There are, however, dozens of tab sites online, but your video lessons are the reason I come here, and the reason I became a premium member. That is what sets you apart from other tutorial sites online.

Another great (and challenging) lesson. I am learning the first part on acoustic/electric. Fingers really getting a workout there, but it is coming along better and better as I practice. The sound slice is a welcome addition for me. I see lots of potential for instruction there. Could that be “retro fitted” into earlier lessons? That would be nice! If all this technology and instruction were around when I first picked up a guitar (about 30 years ago) I’d be “Nationwide” by now! lol
    Thanks Brian!

I have never seen anything like this lesson and what you are doing in active melody anywhere else in explaining where these little chords are coming from and how to learn how to make them, from any other instructor. this is gold. I like the way you usually tell us which box the runs are coming from (which you did not do in this lesson on the one run). I can figure it out but it takes time away from playing, which is in short supply.I like the sound source features, and I don’t know how your other subscribers feel, but something else I think would enhance your videos, would be a box in the upper right hand corner showing the fretboard fingering, and showing the note paying in a color sequence. This could reduce a lot of verbal explanation of what frets/strings you a playing on the fretboard.

A good complement to facilitate the study.
It seems that SoundSlice presents an advantage compared with the Guitar Pro for the accompagnement
Continue in this way Brian 🙂

My second post on this lesson as I work thru it…The real gold here is Brian’s explanation where those arpeggio runs are coming from chord-wise and the trick of where to find the double stops. I had been learning double stops by memorizing their location for the key I was playing in but this never worked as I had to rely on my memory. Understanding where they come from is a game changer. -Muddy

    Absolutely beautiful guitar playing.
The bluesy lick at the end contrasted really well from the country stuff before it.

Only negative comment was that the cursor was a bit behind the music.
    I’m sure that will improve.

Yes! Definitely do it! Great new feature! It’s similar to GuitarPro but you don’t have to buy the software.

Here are some suggestions for the new technology…
    1. Johnny B. Good
    2. Simple but thorough Two Handed Tapping piece like Eddie Van Halen
    3. A classical piece like Greensleeves or Maleguena
    4. Nice version of Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix
    5.Over the Rainbow

    Sorry I got carried away
    Just suggesting…  Thanks!

This happens from time to time and it’s related to your browser. The solution that usually works for people is to close all opened tabs in your browser, close it, and restart it. If for some reason that doesn’t work (and it should), you could always try using a different browser, i.e. Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.
