Description
In this week’s guitar lesson, you’ll learn how to play a solo version of Jingle Bells on acoustic guitar over a blues shuffle. In addition to learning how to play it note for note, I’ll break down the arrangement and explain my thought process so that you can implement these techniques and create your own arrangements of songs.

I love this one! Just in time to learn for Christmas. Excellent – thanks, Brian!
Nice arrangement! Thanks Brian
Thanks. Great lesson. Best to you and yours. Ellen and Fran
Love it. Thanks
Oh! This will be a fun one.
Amazing!
Great Brian. Happy Holidays
Thanks Brian! Friday evenings are like Xmas every week…
Thanks Brian…
Great lesson, Brian, many thanks! Now…. if only Santa Claus could figure out a way to get you an Ohio State BUCKEYES ball cap for Christmas….
Brian Sherrill – P.O. Box 159, Franklin TN 37065 – I wear anything that folks send.. within reason ofcourse 🙂
Super good arrangement and such a great idea to revisit a lesson (EP079) and now offer another take on this classic Christmas tune. Thankyou.
Thank you Brian 🙂
Yes, it is a super arrangement with only one little bending .I will add some more, because I improved the technic during the last 2 lessons and -this is the way my brain thinks-.This sentence of yours makes me more courageous. But now and then my brain needs some good advices. And yours are always helpful.
Thanks
What a fabulous teaching idea – some really great, but fairly straight forward blues licks which I would never have gone to in the context of this simple song. They absolutely transform the musical feel.
As Ian C says, it is a great idea to take a well known tune and develop it in this way, without the need for a backing track. I hope we get more like this!
This is fantastic and just in time so I’ll nail it when Christmas comes 😉 Thanks, Brian!
This has to be the best version of Jingle Bells I have ever heard. Thanks Brian, you never cease to amaze us. Have a Great Christmas.
exactly what I need. There might be a talent show in my company for Christmas! Thank you!
You make me play better than I am! Great Brian, thanks
Well said, Valter. I know exactly what you mean.
Outstanding, Brian!! One of your best arrangements yet!!!
Larry
You “sleighed” it Brian (pun intended). Very cool improvisation.
Jingle all the way with your bad self.
Thanks. A few great takeaways (as usual). It’s funny because I wouldn’t normally be interested in a Christmas song. But I work through it anyway because I absolutely know there will be loads of takeaways and as usual I’m not disappointed. I really like the arrangement too so actually enjoyed the song too.
I really like this approach to Jingle Bells. I also liked the EP079. Enjoy everything you send. Thanks for all you do.
That was a great lesson with lots of great take aways Brian
Thanks
Ray
Wow man your content is next level good.
Thank you so much Brian.
Great arrangement! Thank you !
Thank you for the early Christmas gift Brian! This is a wonderful version; chock full of takeaways too. (as always)
This is cool! Can´t wait to get started on this one. Thanks, Brian !
Brian, You caught my attention about this time last year with “O Holy Night”. I just wanted to learn one song but ending up becoming a premium member because of the quality of the lesson. it is amazing how much I have been able to pick up over the past year. In the spirit of this Holiday weekend…I’m truly thankful for you! God Bless!
Thank you!
Love it Brian. This has quickly become my favorite of your Christmas songs. It’s so much fun to play and I’ve definitely learned some new useful licks!
Great Solo composition for the Holidays!!!
Brian,
Could you have your webmaster add “mark as Completed” buttons on Part 1 and Part 2 of the lessons to keep track of the progress? I have recently used them on your Hendrix course and they were very helpful. Thanks!
Top draw Brian love the Christmas song arrangements puts you in the spirit for this most wonderful time of the year.thankyou
I thought this might be beyond me at the moment as I’ve only been playing just over a year but im over halfway through in just one day WOW!
Premium is totally worth it, big thanks Brian.
Hey Brian, another great one to add to the collection! I am wondering, you did Jingle Bell Rock a few years ago and while I see it on youtube I don’t see it here. EP009. I would like to get the tabs on this one, perhaps I am not looking in the right location.
Thanks
Jeff
Great lesson – thanks Brian : ) I’m new to the monthly subscription and it’s worth every £ (I’m in the UK).
I love the blues and I love Christmas tunes – so I’m super happy with this one!
Any chance of Winter Wonderland and Frosty the Snowman in a blues/jazz/swing style?
Really appreciate the time that you put into making these lessons. Thank you.
Shaun
That is really cool!!!
Naftali k
Thanks Brian !! . I look forward to you doing these every year!
Typo in tab title, Learn a solo composition version of Jinigle Bells
Great arrangement. However, tab does not seem to match. Is this an old one? Also, its hard for me to see what you are doing with your ring finger on the first shuffle. Are you just deadening strings or playing a note with it?
I think he’s deadening (that’s the xxx in the tab I believe)
Great arrangement!!!
What model Martin are playing.
Anthony M
Looks like the Martin CEO-7
Trying to Print, but it doesnt print right hand bars, ie; 4,8 12 etc..
help..lol
Thanks…
Love the arrangement…. Love the Martin CEO-7
Thanks Again
I love to have a fun song to play for Christmas
Very cool
I’m so far behind in learning these fun lessons. And more I’m more behinderer…I’ll take it…
This is amazing, but I cannot get that shuffle – any lessons to help me work on that?
Thanks Brian. Just to show I’m paying attention: there’s a typo of “Jingle” in the sub-title of the pdf
Brian:
Not sure if this problem is coming from your end or mine. Whenever I try to print the tablature pdf , as soon as I go PRINT, the sheet reduces by half and I can’t get the entire thing. – rather annoying. Is anyone else having this issue?
Reduce the print scale from 100% to 60%. That should get the whole page to fit.
Great Lesson Brian,
You are helping to fill the tool box with the takeaways, and make them accessible!!!
Love the style for this song. Thanks again for all you do.
Once again a perfect song for the Christmas season arranged beautifully. You Sir are a fabulous guitar teacher – the website is truly amazing and aids so much in the learning process. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks so much for all the lessons over the past year, and let us all hope that 2021 brings happiness, peace and joy to all.
Can’t wait to start this. Every year I have to relearn your Jingle Bell Rock from 2012.
https://youtu.be/DIdFz9aS4d8
Thanks Brian
Great arrangement, Brian.
What is the tempo for this full speed? The PDF says 80, but that seems to be the walkthrough speed. I tapped it and it’s comes about to about 142, but seems to speed up a little later.
Hi, very nice song 🙂
Which model of Martin guitar do you play this song on.
Sorry for my english…
Greetings from switzerland
Hi Brian great rendition of this Xmas classic ! I do however have a challenge , in the second verse where you have the chord run of triads starting from A at the 5th the G then A6 the yu call the next chord A9 ?? surely this is a G6 , i understand that you have a B note (which in the context of A would be the 9th degree) and a E note (perfect 5) however playing the G note would make this a flattenned 7 note, so I cannot really see how you can look at this chord as a derivative of A , be great to get your view on this.
having a lot of fun with this one The best to you and yours
Just about got it nailed 😄5 days till Christmas.
All the best Brian , to you and your family.
👍🙏
Great! Fun to play. Everybody loved it!! Hoping for another next year!
Love this arrangement!
Brian – what guitar are you playing. It sounds great. Is it a Martin?
Yes. a Martin CEO-7
Well that was great fun to learn Brian, I don’t know how other students feel about it but personally I would love to see some more lesons in tha similar vein where you take a well known song and jazz it up with a bluesy arrangement that encourages improvisation around a melody.
Love this and the Soundslice feature. Is it possible to make available as Guitarpro file as well as PDF? Much prefer guitar pro for working on timing etc.
Great song. How about doing the Christmas Song this year? Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Thanks
This is great. Now, how about a similar treatment for Happy Birthday?
Wow
Another wow
You amaze me and thank you
Brian — Thank you because you’ve helped me a huge amount, to where I can actually play these
things and actually even sound close to what they’re supposed to sound like! LOL
However, I can only hope that in a number of years I will actually be able to arrange and create stuff like
this. I don’t know where and how you come up with this stuff but it’s awesome, you are truly gifted
to be able to do that
